queen, they don't necessarily think he will be around for 5 more years. the longer they make the contract, the less his signing bonus counts against the salary cap each year that he plays. they may have needed to make it 5 years just to stay under the cap for next year.
for instance, if he got a $20 million signing bonus, each year of his contract $4million will count against the cap. had they only signed him to a 2 year deal, $10 million would count against the cap.
