but in england thats about £5 which is about $10 in US.
Exactly....but not exactly "happy" but the paycheck isn't too bad when they get it. There is not a problem there because many teenagers aren't exactly living off of that wage but it is disposable income...they can spend, save most or all of it however they want if they are still under their parent's roof. theres a reason we pay people minimum wage, because there are jobs out there for people with no experience or talent, i pay them 6 bucks because its a shit easy talentless expendable job, why would i want to pay some shmuck 12 an hour to do something they should be makin 6.50 for?

exactly....raising minimum wage will lead to unemployment. My boss said if minimum wage did go up that much he wouldn't have that many part time employees. Just hire a few more full timers, pay them a couple dollars more than the new minimum wage and get it over with. The average term of service of a part time employee that usually makes minimum wage is short and would be even more expensive to train. A full time person that at least is consistent, lasts longer, and knows a few things is at least worth while.
