how did he react to the sex scenes?
I liked how they added Nixon and parts of US (world) history to the movie. Especially the budda monk burnings. From the earlier scenes I thought that maybe the watchmen were villains playing heroes.
my boy covers his eyes during kissing scenes. smh.
a lot of the plot points are irrelevant to the story.
the plot is this:
who killled the comedian? superteam unravels the mystery.
now you can examine the layers of plot to add depth to that plot but it doesn't take much to understand.
look at starwars...you can discuss jedi religion, subterfuge of palpatine, the unethical treatment of the skywalker bloodline by the jedi council, the friendship of anakin and obiwan.
but are those things necessary to enjoy the movie?
not really.
the old teams feelings about comedian.
dr & silks drifitng relationship
nightowl & rorshach trying to see eye to eye again
the idea of outtlawing heros.
dealing with inadequacy and being outtdated
dr m's struggle with his loss of humanity
alternate timeline of world events.,
all just icing on a mystery movie.
i loved the movie.
i thought they did a greatt job of not having to read the GN to understand the flick. which is what you want to do when making a comic adaptation.
yea they technically didnt need to add the historical references, but then again that is what i feel really made it a better movie. it was deep and layered as you said. if was too simple its just another mindless movies like most everything else out there.
i think thats what it made it better than batman, for me. batman was a cool ass movie, but it was just another superhero movie (just happend to be way better than most). watchmen brought something more to the table.
^^^i kind of agree, but dark knight also had allegory at it's heart, it wasn't just a punch up...but watchmen is definitely more layered.
style's post is on point...have you read the novel though style? i was skimming my copy the other night and found it interesting how much they left out, that i didn't even think about while watching the movie...but it's been awhile since i last read it.
well watchmen was based off the entire series. that's one of the things about the movie i didn't like. it seemed like they pushed everything on you at once. it wasn't that it was better layered, just everything packed into one. unlike batman that usually only has a layer or two for the movie.
do the heroes go through certain training or did those corny white boys just turn badass over night?
i think they just buy a suit and get to business.
on the layered vs. packed...the only way to not pack it in was to make several movies worth. and probably have to include a lot of trivial shit/make stuff up to fill the gaps. they could have turned it into some franchise and just pimped the shit out of it for 3 or 4 movies. but im glad they didn't. but who knows if done right maybe it would have been dope. just glad i didnt have to wait 4 movies until i saw the end though ya know.
just watched this last night and it was really a great movie and i never read the comics.how does the ink on Rorschach face keep moving?
how does a dude become a living god and be able to vaporize people into thin air.
just a movie.
in the comics, he worked for a tailor, and some girl ordered a dress made of a 'space-age' fabric where the black elements kept moving around, he witnessed a girl get murdered in an alleyway, and once he decided to fight crime, he cut a mask out of the dress and went to work.
The fabric didn't allow the black ink and white ink to mix, like water and oil.
^cool thanx for the info you guy's
I wish they explained that or showed a little of that part, gives more of a detailed story of Rorschachs background.
