Killah Priest being on a Clan album is so long overdue, he should've been on Wu-Tang Forever if you ask me. How does Street and Cappa get multiple verses on there but Priest just appears (barely, "it'll be a resurrection") on the talking skit towards the end of "Bells of War"? Dafuq? But yeah, on ABT, he would've been a perfect addition for the title track or on "Miracle". It's like RZA is deliberately not allowing KP's brilliance on a Clan album. Just another of many bad RZA decisions.

I like 8D and I like ABT, but I feel the same way about both. They should have been Rza albums. Think about how many problems that change would have solved. He wouldn't have had any disputes with other clan members and no obligations to have everyone on the album. He wouldn't have had to worry about splitting money in any special way since they would have just been features. He could have pushed the concepts he wanted without any flack because it would have been his album. He could have been as experimental as he wanted without any pushback because again, it would have been his album. He wouldn't have had to deal with the expectations that come with a clan album because it would have been his album alone and people would have expected it to be different from a clan album.

The problem with Rza is the same problem with a lot of his backers on here. He doesn't just see himself as the head of Wu-tang. He sees himself as Wu-tang. As a result, every time he has a concept, he thinks that it should definitely be a Wu album. I think there would have been less strive overall and probably more success if he stuck to a certain mold for the Wu albums since that's what both his fellow members and the fans wanted, and saved his experimental shit for his own solos.

I don't know why some people on here don't get this.

A lot of RZA hating as I expected. But I feel Mathematics has the 2 weakest beats on the album. After a few listens now, my only main beef is the choruses. Other than that I am happy. Call me a Wu Stan, but I can live with that as I enjoy the album. Peace

I enjoy this album quite a bit....but it's definitely a different sound but I like it.....I mean would I like a 90s wu sounding album? Sure but musically this is solid. The only problem is breaking up the flow of tracks with hooks. It's funny though.....rza doesn't call wu tang a group anymore.....he calls them a band hahaha. I really enjoy this album though!

The most annoying part of this album by far is Rzas verse on pioneer the frontier

Robert Diggs, I can not call this "new producer" Rza, live in his new world. I am happy for him but I don't like that. I don't want to hear 90s beats again. If I want to hear 90s sound, I will listen to 90s rap album. But early wu albums are timeless ! Rza was the man ! But as I think Rza is dead and now we deal with another guy.

This is a Pink Floyd album with wu tang mc's stabbing in and out.

Ghost, gza and cappa can come with some better rhythm.

U god and mast Killah smashed hard on this as far as I know.

Method man is the man but god damn, this ain't no Mr Sandman.

Somehow it's a win-win situation for Rae. It's always been since 8D. Whenever a collective effort succeeds he reaps some of that success. If it fails, he can always say he's the one who who is keeping this legacy.

Let's be honest, these guys are law-abiding citizens/tax payers, bussiness owners and parents. They should tour around for some time, settle down and enjoy.

Wu-Tang is like a Soviet Union of hip hop. They had nukes, power, resources but they could work only under the rule of a dictator. But when central power gets weaker, dissolution must occur. Yet they still want to maintain some connections with their former state/group, cause they're nothing without it.

shit, i can't believe people are complaining that much... i have only heard it twice yet, but i think it's an impressive albuum. RZA came through with the beats big time, 4th Disciple and Adrian Younge did a great job and Math did one ill one.

lyrically they are on point for the most part, so what if one or two verses are sub-par when you have loads of theme songss and full on storytelling joints. GZA sounds better than in a long time, Raekwon had great verses, Method Mans flow is still impeccable and his voice is like the glue for the group. i don't know why people don't like Cappadonna bc he nailed it more often than not.

this is an LP you want to play front-to-back, just like "8 Diagrams" it's a true album, noot a collection of singles. it's much better than "Iron Flag", lyrically it's stronger than "8D" because they all seem to ben the same page and inviting 4th was a genius move. "Necklace", much like "Weak Spot", really capture that vintage Wu feel. i need to listen more but this is not dissapointing at all... i would have prefered that they would have remixed "Reunion" but it is what it is

I am happy for you if you enjoy this album. I don't think the album is mediocre. It's a good album but not what I expected. Some tracks are good and the album is cohesive. yeah you can listen to this from start to finish but sometimes I want to skip some tracks. According to me it's not a very impressive job. Robert Diggs gave his best but as I said he lost his way. He was under too many influences. I don't think this album is for wu fans. Many persons will certainly enjoy it but not me. All good things must come to an end ! For me Wu-tang = land of the lost ! In a near future if I want to listen to wu music I will listen to their 90s shit.

The W was a classic and Gravel Pit was a hit single. Ghostface peaked during that year. Stop treating Wu-Tang like it's a religion or something.

i always thought that "8 Diagrams" was kind of a RZA album with Wu-Tang members voices used as another instrument, but i don't get that impression from "A.B.T." at all as much... i mean the Wu-Tang albums were always made from RZA's vision, including "36 Chambers" and "Wu-Tang Forever" but the other generals had enough trust in him to not moan about it back then.

also unlike "8D" the Wu members here seem very pleased with "A.B.T."

I like enormously Rza for me it was the best producer . but he must understand that it is a beat maker , not a leader of a band fuck !! I ecouté the album a few times although it is not a classic but it 's not bad.
I really think this is the derneir album.
Other points RZA must not only decide the artistic direction of an album especially if AC can be your last!
Rae and Ghost but do not expect me to buy their new album !

No, The Source was the biggest hip hop publication at that time, that still mattered most, and gave The W only 3.5 mics. That was WITH Wu on the cover, and still gave them a mediocre score, and earlier that year they gave Supreme Clientele a 4.5/5. Also, even Wu didn't seem think it was up to par, the reason why they released Iron Flag the following year. Wu never released albums back to back, and definitely not that fast. They obviously felt like most fans felt about The W, that it lacked the aggressive raw content. That's the reason why Iron Flag sounds more aggressive overall, whereas, The W was them attempting to be more mainstream. Hence the reason for having songs like Gravel Pit with a Flintstones inspired video, Jump Off at an attempt for some radio play with a colorful throwback 80s club video. And having so many big name platinum artists (at that time) that they broke bread with during the years, featured on there. It's obvious what they (or RZA) tried to do, that album was far from a traditional Wu album, it was soft compared to Forever, and dumbed down lyrically compared to Forever, over featured, and going for more mainstream appeal. When I get a Wu cd I wanna hear the Wu, and only Wu....not Snoop Dogg over a garbage, lazy, Bobby Digital beat with ODB.

Personally I don't care if he wants to try things. He has always experimented a lot, it's his trademark. But before he knew how a crazy beat sounds. I think he is under too many influences and wants to please everybody. But Everybody doesn't care about Wu tang only die hard fans do. For many hip hop heads wu is done (even the guy who introduced me to wu world). I don't know if he wants to make a "musician" album ! If that is the case he fails. That beat is tough, very vintage sounding. Even tho RZA kinda messed it up with that whispering, talk rap shit, but other than that, it's one of the hard hitters on the album. Mistaken ID is my favorite.

It's obvious what they (or RZA) tried to do, that album was far from a traditional Wu album, it was soft compared to Forever, and dumbed down lyrically compared to Forever, over featured, and going for more mainstream appeal. When I get a Wu cd I wanna hear the Wu, and only Wu....not Snoop Dogg over a garbage, lazy, Bobby Digital beat with ODB.

Wu actually released Iron Flag so soon after The W because Loud Records was going under. Iron Flag was released to try and keep the label afloat.

I think the same goes for Mobb Deep's Infamy album.

The W is ill and is one of my favourites in the whole Wu catalogue. When it dropped it really was considered a sort of 36 Chambers 2000.

Mobb Deep were kinda due an album that year, because Murda Muzik was a big hit, and came out in 99. Plus, P was anxious to respond to Jayz after the Takeover diss, a few months prior to it that year. But anyway, The W, was never considered a new 36 Chambers, ever. Never heard that, because nobody said that (I'm not even that much of a Stan). Nothing on it sounds anything remotely like 36 Chambers (besides the Shaolin Finger Jab beat, Hollow Bones, maybe). The W wasn't aggressive, 36 Chambers wasn't trying to be radio friendly, and didnt feature any other artists outside of the Clan on it (certainly not star studded features). So its silly to call it that. The W was made because RZA promised an album in 97, for the year 2000. And it felt that way, half assed, and lazy, just to fulfill an obligation. And regardless of whatever Loud was going through, Iron Flag still felt like them trying to make up for their weak comeback, with more aggressive content like Uzi, Yall Been Warned, Radioactive, Iron Flag/The Glock, In The Hood etc. In fact, The W title track was merely part of a skit on the actual album, and it was aggressive and dope .... but RZA ended putting it on the Iron Flag album. Thats kinda proof right there that he didnt want The W to be that raw, he was aiming for mainstream appeal. The W is not a classic, it's very average for Wu, because they set too high of a standard for themselves in the 90s. Supreme Clientele put them back on the right track, and RZA derailed the train once again, with The W.

Yeah me neither, it probably came from the same source that said The W is "36 Chambers 2000".
