Yeah Belgium need a better manager than Wilmots. I only saw the second half but Belgium's only clear cut chance was that awesome counter that Lukaku missed, otherwise in the second half they looked disjointed and like they've never played together before. I know they made the QF in Brazil 2014 but they didn't really play too well and it appears this tournament might be much of the same. They're up there for pure talent but they really need to make it count and under Wilmots the jury is still out on them.

What exactly is Fellaini's role in the team? The guy literally did nothing in the second half. I saw him stuff a potential counter by just chesting the ball to Italy, Chiellini made a long range run and Fellaini was just walking away with his back to the ball opening up space and he didn't even notice that Chiellini was running by him. It seems like all he is there for is when they have the ball on the flank he gets forward waiting for a cross. Surely they have somebody who can get involved and not stifle the attack

So far Germany and Italy have really turned up and it's no surprise since they're the traditional 'tournament team' some of the other big teams like Spain and France didn't really play too well. England proved they still don't have that ability to kill off a game.

Belgium just has the same problems it had two years ago, they played exactly the same way in Brazil. Its on the coach to fix the problems the team has, if he hasn't done so in two years he has to go. Belgium cannot waste this group of players they have, it would be criminal if they did.

The ball movement was slow, against a team like Italy that ball needs to be moving around quickly all over the pitch. Defensively they got caught out a lot by simple long balls, how many times did the Italians get the ball behind the Belgian defense? Bare in mind this isn't an overly talented Italian side. Italy just played a simple game and did everything right, thats just good coaching something Belgium don't have.

Yep the defending was woeful. Alderweireld stood there as Pelle leaped up for a header which Courtois made a brilliant save to keep the game alive. I think most neutrals want to see them achieve something so it's frustrating they don't. I read an article the other day about how they won't do anything until Wilmots is gone.

Belgium kept trying to play through the middle when they had Hazard & De Bruyne on the flanks with Fellaini and Lukaku central. Enough said, really.

Fuck, so so disappointing. We were excellent, especially in the first half. Could have gotten one or two in that half alone. Feel sorry for Clarke but not sure there was much he could do about the goal. It says something about our team that Ibrahimovich done nothing all game apart from the cross that led to the goal.

I mean the coach has learned NOTHING since the world cup 2 years ago. we've still got the same problems :

*slow ball circulation
*no surprises in the game (keeps the creative players pocketed till the last 25 minutes)
*using Hazard & Debruyne on the same team (you should NEVER put Debruyne on a flank, he is less motivated, put dude in the center)


can't front on the Italians. Conte is a very tactically skilled coach. even though this isn't the most talented Italian generation in a while they played as a TEAM, showed real grinta and ON TOP OF THAT their technical skills were far better than those of the Belgian players. did you see that first goal? that final pass (long pass!), the way Giaccherini controlled the ball and scored - classy!

SMFH @ our coach. dude said in his last interview before the European cup 'as long as the backs are a tight unit the other players can do as they please and work out their own ideas'. MOTHERFUCKER YOU ARE GETTING PAID TO DO SOME THINKING AND WORK OUT A VALID STRATEGY. BUT YOU'RE JUST TOO DUMB AREN'T YOU? how the fuck are you gonna let the players do what they want to do? you've got Hazard & De Bruyne asking for the ball IN THE SAME POSITION just one example


so much talent going to waste, I swear. this generation should be ready to harvest now but first and foremost they are not self critical (back Vertonghen in his post game interview 'yeah I think we did well' - motherfucker you lost 0:2 how exactly did you play well?) and secondly they deserve a real coach

my suggestions :
*I nominate a new coach for after the European Cup : Michel Preudhomme (Belgian champ this year)
*for this European Cup : forward Dries Mertens should ALWAYS start the game
*more cross passes needed
*put Debruyne in the center position or take him off the team cuz he's been going through a rough patch lately

I know the feeling of frustrations with a national coach. We suffered under Giovanni Trapatoni for years. Some of the most dire awful football I have ever seen. He had the mentality that we were not good enough and wouldnt win, so played every game trying not to concede goals. He wouldnt pick some of the best Irish players at the time coz they wouldnt fit into his mold. We Hoolihan was one he wouldnt pick and look at the impact he had yesterday.

Hopefully ye will bring some of that same style when ye play us and we can get some points off ye.


On another note the Irish national anthem was incredible. No other nation sings their anthem so loud and with such pride it was deafening.

And then Northern Ireland goes and uses God Save The Queen as their national anthem. Pathetic.

Ronaldo's outburst is one of frustration, Portugal cannot score they struggle to create chances. They send in loads of crosses but it just doesn't work, they need a target man upfront Ronaldo and Nani roam around too much leaving no one in the box to aim at. Having Ronaldo, Nani and then Quaresma on the field at the same time is just madness.

Yeah good luck on Saturday, I missed the Belgium game unfortunately, I recorded the Republic Of Ireland game and stayed off the internet all day so I didnt know the score and i was afraid if I watched Belgium Italy they would reveal the result. We were even better in the first half, loads of chances. We should have scored a few.

There havent really been any outstanding games yet though. Teams are afraid of losing. I think the second round of matches will be better as the teams who lost or drew will really go for it.
