Anybody been reading the new Green Arrow brightest day?
^i read the first issue and thought it sucked...the art was decent in a generic way...buy the 'green arrow: year one' tpb instead.
look....a Thor by Walter Simonson Omnibus is dropping in March 2011...save your money now, because from what little I've read of this run (thanks uncle bill) this is as good as Thor gets.
I just put a twenty in the jar to make sure I buy this (no lie)...shit's going to be massive...it'll be the literary equivalent of Mjolnir.Quote:
Considered by many to be the greatest run on Thor ever, Walt Simonson's classic tales of the God of Thunder are collected here-completely remastered from the original artwork and newly colored by Steve Oliffe! And there are too many timeless tales to count: The Casket of Ancient Winters! The death of Odin! The origins of Asgard! The sacrifice of the Executioner! Thor as a frog! The Mutant Massacre! Collecting: Thor #337-355, #357-369, #371-382; Balder the Brave #1-4
I think I'm going to buy the Kirby one, too...maybe, but I think it's the early silver age stuff and cuts off before Kirby's art got really trippy.
caught up on the action comics run thats goin on..boss stuff, very enjoyable...that cover for issue 891 is brillaint..finch is killin em...bbl with more thoughts on the massive pile i got in front of me.
ya the action comics w/ luthor is just good comics
i wish i had a massive pile...all i got was hawkeye &mockingbird and black cat #3 lol
I just picked up Green Hornet #6, Green Arrow #3, Wolverine #1, Taskmaster #1, Avengers Academy #3, Avengers #4, Scarlet #2, Black Widow #6.
^how was taskmaster #1? i didn't pick up wolverine because the art looked unappealing...which was probably a mistake lol
I still haven't read it, I'll let you know.
avengers sucks so bad..eloels.. AARRGH
o and im rereading batman & son...quote of the day
"Don't patronize me, or i'll break your face"
eloels.
^"i have to relearn how to be myself? this is insane..."
"this comic stuff is way too highbrow for my tastes..."
so many quotables (quoting from memory)...once his run on batman and robin and return of bruce wayne wraps, i have to re-read this whole thing from start to finish.
ya, i leafed through it and the art really hurts the mock-epic-bockbuster-disater vibe...an artist with more detail would've saved the book.
re-read 'all star superman'...buy this if you haven't yet, the combination of art and writing is so pitch-perfect, i know i'm prone to hyperbole, but it's like the perfect superhero comic.
ive been meaning to buy that for years...and i never finished reading their work on x men....sad face.
^the new x-men stuff is amazing until the last two arcs ('planet x' and 'here comes tomorrow'---mainly because of what i felt was a mischaracterization of magneto, and silvestri's art didn't work with the script at all on the 'tomorrow' arc imo)...at least buy the first new x-men ultimate collection, that's the really brilliant stuff. (at least to my high school brain, i haven't read it in a while)
but you definitely need to buy the 2 tpbs of ASS lol...morrison and quitely are so good together, i think quitely interpets morrison's scripts better than anybody, while adding so many beautiful touches of his own.
'shade' is insane...i don't know why this series isn't more well-regarded, unless it eventually fizzles, but the first couple of arcs are boss and have that 80s creepiness lol
ya man shade is fantastic...all the characterizations of angst and confusion milligan whips up with bachalo are awesome
on the subject of morrison and vertigo...have u read any of his invisibles work? or animal man? also stuff ive been meaning to check out
^i've only read the first invisibles trade, and the art in 'animal man' and 'doom patrol' turned me off lol...'we3' is incredible, though
we3 is really good. bought that a while back. i've heard rumors he was going to revisit those characters.
and may i just say, i know you guys love the batman books and all, but i really fucking hate what they've been doing with the character. and the shit they got on deck just looks horrible to me. batmen worldwide? i mean, come the fuck on. its not as bad as making the punisher a zombie, but it all just feels very un-batman like.and bruce stuck in time while in his own mind as well? old trusty sidekick takes the mantle? sounds like someone owes brubaker some money or writing credits. lol
the dc universe has been really uninteresting since countdown, the pile of suck known as final crisis & the monumentally anti-climactic blackest night. yet most comic heads have a dc favoritism. go figure
^the similarities between the runs are superficial imo...and morrison is handling the time travel element more skillfully than brubaker did, who did the 'unstuck in time' shit very clumsily imo
to me, morrison's run is an all encompassing picture of batman, he just embraced the absurd as well ...and it is still very batman-like in that there are puzzles, an overarching mystery, grotesque villains with perverse motivations...it's just got the weird sci-fi stuff which understandably annoys some people...but i love it
it's just fun to read, man...it's the wackiness of 60s-70s comics but with modern flair.
also, i think bruce and dick are going to be the only batmen, he's just globetrotting working with and training other heroes, if i understand correctly...the first 'batman inc' story is a team up with catwoman in dubai.
i was always more of a marvel fan growing up (except for batman) and so are most people i have ever talked to lol
may i just say, as a person who previously only read marvel (except for batman also..eloels) DC has been in a phenominal place as of late...GL, Batman, Flash, the wed. comics thing they did..the vertigo stuff? and the current run on Batman has been fantastic...dense and entertaining.
to be fair, i gotta say marvels kinda in a boring place itself.
its just kinda stagnant in both the majors respective universes.
and i do hope they let greyson resume as batman. that would be cool. if they really had balls they could let wayne stay dead. you could tell old "untold" tales of wayne and still get that money. and a catwoman/bruce wayne team-up in dubai sounds good, i cant lie.
and the dc bias really aint you guys on here, but i hear it in comic shops and on a lot of comic sites too. marvel is like the great comic satan and dc is all that is good with capes.
i would like to see dc do a max type thing. popular heroes in adult themed story lines. they do it sometimes but to just have a imprint solely for that would be dope. i guess thats why i liked identity crisis so much. it was made for the people who grew up with that version of the justice league. yes it was dark, but it was also kind of a love letter to those old comics too.
^both companies put out the same mixture of garbage and awesome imo...although dc has an edge on marvel with vertigo...the closest thing marvel has is Icon.
imo green lantern and morrison's batman smokes any of the superhero stuff marvel has put out in the last 4-5 years and vertigo has fables, scalped, unwritten, madame xanadu
other than hickman's stuff, marvel's stuff isn't as clever or exciting as dc's right now...brubaker's cap was up there, but reborn was such a disaster i dropped it, and iron man became boring, the x-books are just not interesting imo...everything brubaker/phillips do at icon is incredible though
it goes in phases, in a few more years the pendulum will swing the other way
identity crisis was excellent...was meltzer's jla run of the same quality?
amen
is power girls power having huge tits all the time? eloels
IMO DD#508 was the best issue thus far... i see what you were sayin but this was great.
Iron Fist or BT... maybe... idk about spidey, the story has been in such a great dark place i can't see Spidey workin. Castle... yeah but Iron Fist would be fun. BT wouldn't interest me cause it would work too well.
well put, i had to go back and get his entire run on Batman to get the whole picture and its just a great run all over.
The absurd is what i love about Morrison. He can make the most realist stories, the most believable & logical plots and just wrap you in it till you snap out of it one day and say wtf?... thats always been his strong point to me.
Shadowland 3 was not good... i was so damn hype for this story and i thought since DD is guna be off the air for a while, they'd go all out. Unfortunately i sould've seen this as #2 seemed a little drawn back.
lol
I thought I had read in an issue at one point somebody had asked her about it and she said it provided that last split second where her attacker could have her cornered and look down like "mmmmm" and she could flip the tables on 'em lol...
I'd probably be the fool to look...
the best thing about shadowland so far has been punisher's entrance lol
poetic wun, i'll pm you some ideas on sigs once i think about it and the alcoho buzz subsides
wolverine was weird as shit...idk if i wanna follow this whole road to hell shit tbh tho
Sex & Violence doesn't live up to it's name. Lame dialogue and one excruciatingly predictable "sex scene" isn't very edgy.
I hope the new team is ill. looks ill.
<Brushing up on his Hercules as of late.
But tell me im not the only one who thinks the Incredible Hercules series is dope.
hey, im not a comic book fan really, but i used to love the marvel/dc shows when i was younger especially the more mature stuff like Justice League, was wondering what dope tv shows/cartoon movies like the justice league are good as of the past few years?
thanks
wonder woman was good. green lantern firt flight. the batman season 5. public enemies. under the red hood. my personal favs anyway.
^Thanks Poetic Wun, will check them out
im diggin the dark daredevil sig, poetic wun. pretty slick.
and karma, the justice league series was probably the best transfer of these characters to media thus far. so you should check out all the dc direct to dvd animated movies.
batman- under the red hood has taken over as my personal favorite.
justice league-crisis on two earths is written by the same guys than wrote the justice league show. it was originally supposed to be the movie that explained the transition from justice league to justice league unlimited. so if you enjoyed the show, you should like it too.
wonder woman is great too. as poetic mentioned.
justice league - a new frontier is good. its set in the beginning of the silver age.
hulk vs wolverine/thor is worth checkin out.
ultimate avengers 1 & 2 aint bad.
and if you can get the entire run of the wolverine & the x-men animated series its pretty good too. not as good as justice league, but still not bad. good storytelling and it was pretty true to the characters.
and power girls tits are a huge part of her power.
solomon grundy's been caught slippin many times cause of that cleavage.
and her kryptonian dna keeps them firm, soft and perky.
god bless power girl.
man, im like...twitching for this next issue of BnR..eloels..few more days
http://dccomics.com/media/product/1/5/15341_400x600.jpg
this picture..in the context of what damian said he did in issue 666 of batman...is crazy alarming eloels
now, i did enjoy the hulk vs. one ( especially the wolverine one).
but that was easily the best one of the marvel lot.
and since i got to watch the wolverine and the x-men show in succession, it was really pretty good too. good writing on that show.
but yeah. marvels been pretty lame on the animation front. dc's been steady kicking their ass.
could you imagine a daredevil animated movie of the frank miller elektra/bullseye/hand saga?
or a mature rated punisher animation?
iron fist animated movie?
damn. they stay fuckin up. lol
Just finished reading Taskmaster, I enjoyed it. I don't really know much about Taskmaster so it's all new to me. Any of you read it?
