very happy with the Belgian team's performance today. couldn't have been more different from their first game. finally an offensive game plan with the right players to back it up. for the first team in years Axel Witsel was given the okay by the coach to infiltrate instead of having to keep the game lateral. it paid off big time. also good call to keep Fellaini out of it. De Bruyne and Hazard played up to their normal standards (unlike the first game against Italy) and Lukaku wasn't as passive in the second half of the game compared to everything he'd done before this tournament.

we'll see what happens against Sweden on Monday ...

I watched Iceland-Hungary too (a bit boring, except for the end) and Portugal-Austria (lots of good chances for Portugal, but Ronaldo & his team were out of luck, just look at that penalty shot)

it's hard to fathom how Austria scored 28 out of 30 points during the qualifications when you see how dramatically bad their two matches during the Euro Cup have been. really let down by this team. I mean they even have a hard time to get to four or five combinations without being interrupted

Austria had the easiest group in qualifying. Lol @ Fagnaldo and Portugal, apparently Austria celebrated wildly too. That'll piss them off.

Belgium looked so much better without Fellaini but in the first half they still struggled. A few nice chances created, lovely ball from De Bruyne for the offside goal, but they still don't look majorly threatening when controlling the ball but their counter attack was ruthless. I'd love to see them play against Spain. They should cut Sweden to pieces they're shit.

Turkish defence was very WTF. At 0-0 after about 20 minutes turkey had a counter attack where they had a player on the right tearing in to space and the guy with the ball totally ignored him and cut the ball back in to the centre and of course gave possession away. How could you not play him in to space ffs

Shattered for Iceland I really hoped they would get the win.

Here's hoping Argentina put the yanks to the sword.

hope lukaku scores another hat ful, everton need to get rid of him asap, i can control the ball better than him. somtimes his first touch is so poor, having watched him for everton for 3 seasons. he could be so much more, but his attitude and his 1st touch let him down alot.

i'd be happy if everton got 40 million for him.. lol

Portugal struggled to score in qualifying no surprise they still can't score. They really need a real striker up front. Austria well they just another hyped team that haven't really shown anything.

I also agree with #StonerSloth's analysis of the Belgian's first half in their game against Ireland.

btw a terrorist attack was prevented at the so called soccer fan village in Brussels (place to watch the Belgian games on a big screen) during the Belgium-Ireland game. cops arrested an uncle and a cousin of the two brothers who were responsible for the terrorist attack in Brussels on March 22. the uncle and cousin along had pulled up at the fan village ready to cause havoc. the cousin had already been convicted of a robbery that had led to a firefight with the police a few years ago, along with one of the terrorists who blew himself up at the Brussels airport back in March. 12 additional arrests were made in the larger area of Brussels after the cousin and uncle had been taken into custody. over 150 garage boxes were searched for guns, ammo & explosives as well. meanwhile 4 high ranking members of the government have received new death threats. along with their families they are under police protection now

back to football, it was great to see videos of Belgian & Irish fans celebrating together after their match. Ireland really DOES have the best fans

on Portugal, it looks as if Ronaldo is trying too hard, he seems tensed up. twenty shots on the goal in 2 games, including one failed penalty shot. he knows he's the first one who could score in 4 consecutive European championships and it's making him too eager

he knows Ibrahimovic could earn still this record too so Ronaldo is trying to be the first to achieve this

So so disappointing.

Although that was a clear penalty on Shane Long that led to yer first goal. Not saying we would have won the game or anything if we had gotten in but it would have changed the game. Not 1 but 2 high feet on him in the box. Clear penalty.

But even with that, we were far inferior. Belgium passed the ball well, always someone looking for the ball etc. We were so standoffish, allowed Belgium to play which is fine if you are very strong defensively but we werent. And then when we had the ball no one was looking for it or looking to make a move.

A lot of people have this attitude "we were beaten by a better team, we are lucky even to be here" and that pisses me off, we beat and drew with Germany in the qualifiers! What is the point of even playing with that attitude. Iceland didnt go with that attitude against Portugal.

I missed most of the other two games on Saturday due to having started drinking in the pub at 6:30am to watch the Irish match then continuing to drink all day and not remembering much, but Ronaldo missing the pen def brought a smile to face

Wales topping their group who would have thought and England's inability to score. A second round with England vs Portugal will be funny, just endless shots on goal with no result.

the way Slovakia played against England it makes me embarrassed teams even get a point for a draw

in fact I would not be opposed to having both draws & losses result in zero points in big tournaments

^^ this is what happens when you have an imbalanced tournament and stupid shit like the best 3rd place teams can qualify. They'll 'fix' it by expanding it to 32 teams and further dilute the talent.

That's why I love the away goal rule. It means that a single goal can mean the difference between winning and losing. Been an awful lot of low scoring games in this tournament so far. Been pretty average imo. Especially compared to the 2014 world cup
