Definite banger that had the potential to be a masterpiece.
this album is insanely disappointing. FUCK DEF JAM!!!!! the album screams "I WAS RUSHED IN 10 MIN.".
an opportunity like this... bringing together 3 of the top MC's in the game, not to mention WU cats.. u just dont fuck around w/ that kind of opportunity. and i actually blame meth, GFK & rae mostly. yeah rae & meth voiced displeasure at the way DJ handled it, but they should never have signed off on a 'final' version.
meth killed it lyrically.
ghost was ghost (dopeness runs thru his veins, not blood.).
not nearly enough rae.
i think the mixing & mastering was done by "warren" (cameron diaz's retarded brother in 'something about mary').
it was not worth my $15!!!!!!!!!!
i'm as big a WU fan as their is, but i aint co-signing this. i refuse to support garbage. and for those that actually think this album is "dope", in my opinion you're encouraging them to keep a low standard.
WU to me used to mean "wayyyyy better than anyone else".
I just noticed this entire album is filled with punch-you-in-the-face tracks. our dreams is the only time it slows down. it needed some more mellow tracks
Only complaint: Not enough tracks with the three of them together. These guys really are a classic hip-hop team, but most of the ongs have AT MOST two of them at a time. It almost feels like they culled alot of the tracks from jut random recording sessions.
Really good album that could have been really great.
/\ The 3 of them were not down for the idea of a WHOLE album with just them on tracks as a trio, it was a corny idea for them. Crim 2.5, Dangerous, Miranda & Ant Acids mix to Our Dreams are plenty, you cant ask for a whole album of New Wu
Dissapointing. Rushed. Not cohesive. Youngstown Heist the only good track. Havent Listened to the album since release.
the months have passed and the "Wu Massacre" album, one of the releases i looked the most forward to, have rarely been getting spins. i think all-in-all i've played it about 10 times since i received it... it's not that the music is wack because it is not but the project feels horribly rushed and there's several things about it that just makes me scratch my head. why the hell would they cut off Raekwon from "Criminology II" as well as Ghost's first verse, or why the fuck did they leave a banger like "Made Men" on the cutting floor - especially considering the length of the retail album/ep.
every time i play this on the mp3-player i use the full version of "Criminology 2.5" with Rae, Meth and Ghost, as well as including "Made Men" at the end and omitting the skits. but even with these changes the album lack replay value and many real stand-out moments which is suprising since these 3 guys is amongst my favorite rappers of all time. Raekwon isn't on enough songs but every time he drops by he has a dope verse; Meth is on it a little more and he is straight KILLING IT, wheter it be a verse or the hook (Mr. Mef is still Wu's nr. 1 hook guy, no question) but at the end of the day "Wu-Massacre" is a Ghostface show. besides "Meth vs. Chef Pt. II" and "Made Men", Starks is all over this joint, and that's hard to complain about since he's still an incredible MC whenever he wants as evident on the raw pimp tales displayed on "Pimpin' Chipp" or his furious verbal attack on (?)Shyheim(?) on "Dangerous" - both his verses on "Criminology 2.5" is worth a mention too, no doubt.
the production doesn't hold any suprises exactly, the producers have gone for a safe approach lacing the 3 Wu rappers with their take on "the classic Wu sound". alot of heavy tracks with booming drums and sped-up soul samples is the foundation here and while pretty much all the beats are good, they are predictable and not on the level RZA, Kanye, Just Blaze or Pete Rock would've delivered resulting in low replay value. i must admit that Allah Mathematics's contributions, who haven't impressed me much at all in the last decade, are all really dope and the best on the entire album. "Meth vs. Chef Pt. 2", "Dangerous", "Miranda" and "Made Men" all keep true to the Wu sound without feeling uninspired or too predictable. suprisingly, the only chill-out song comes from RZA himself who's lone contribution to the album gets Rae, Meth and Ghost to talk to their respective girls over a sweet Michael Jackson sample. it's a summer 'feel good' vibe type of track and it's much needed on the otherwise amped, adrenaline/testosterone oozing album (as someone said every song sounds like it tries to be a single).
At the end of the day, the whole thing is a pretty frustrating story considering a collaboration album of this caliber on a label of Def Jam's caliber (meaning there should've been alot of money in the budget for good producers, etc) should result in a classic or at least a truly great album. while "Wu Massacre" has a few great moments, and most of it is listenable/good, it's an album that's quickly forgotten besides one of the greatest covers hip-hop has seen in a good while.
3/5
ugh.
the mcs were on point but again without rza or more wu elements the sound is not fitting.
dope record. love it other then its seems likke an E.P other then that ...top notch .
shit was rushed and it's painfully obvious.
Though it serves as a great EP..... but just that, an EP.
When it's being priced as an LP.
Which is some bullshit.
But the two tracks that undoubtedly show it's worth- Gunshowers & Wu-Shit.
Both of those are FUCKING FFFFFIIIIIIIRRRRRRREEEEEE.
Rest of it is alright. Nothing Special.
man this is still in heavy rotation with me. Criminology 2.5 does its job, Gunshowers is a 10/10, my only complaint is the useless first skit, and they could have through a U-God appearance on here, meth just does not sound inspired anymore. RZA came through with Our Dreams which holds this LP together. I wish we could get a volume two with MK,U-God, and RZA, I'd buy that the first day, then volume three could be Gza,Deck, and Don King. I feel Ghost's pain though, he had to carry this cd, rae was putting other shyt together, and meth could've have came way better than this, I think his input has been off the most since we lost dirt, he better not repeat this performance, and street lifes verse was wack, bring on fes taylor though
criminology 2.5 8/10
meth vs chef 2 10/10
smooth sailing 6/10
our dreams 5/10
gunshowers 10/10
dangerous 5/10
pimpin chip 6/10
miranda 10/10
youngstown heist 6.5/10
its that wu shit 6.5/10
**made men 10/10
I bump Criminology 2.5 almost daily, I think that's a very good track, they all come hard.
wu massacre 2.5/5
