ok, cheers.
yeah thats what i was thinking, next time i need to be more agressive when it comes to having 3 players left. because my main opponent was and as a result he went into heads up with a chip lead.

The % of chips you have heads up is essentially the % you are to win the match so that chip lead is very important. Plus with more chips you have more options and flexibility.
For a tight player, thats the most crucial part of a tournament is when to start doubling up faster so you have the chips. There are a few times when I play extremely aggressive when there are 2 tables left when there is a large imbalance of chips and Im on the smaller table. I would rather get beaten with 2 tables left than going on the final table with one of the shorter stacks.
I start attacking just before the money...that is if 20 places pay start attacking when there are 23 people left when others tighten up. I don't care for 16th place within the money....aim for a top 3 finish.
You also need to determine who is desperate for chips...when someone only has 7X the BB left and act after you...play a game to predict when they will go all-in so you know when to capitalize and when not to try and limp into pots. You also need to figure if it will be just you and the short stack in the pot, etc.
^^^^Anticipating when a short stack is likely to go all in can save you a bundle...
truth, all good tips.
thanks guys, im pretty sure i will be playing on the weekend, hopefully i can implement some of the advice.
cheers.
Is It Just Me Or Is Poker A Lot Like Baseball Very Streaky? I Won Or Came In Second In My Weekly Poker Game Like 7 Weeks In A Row I've Since Havent Come Close Like The Last 3 Or 4 Times. Sometimes I Feel Like I'm Making All The Right Plays And Decisions. And Then Boom The Next Week I'll Feel Way Off And Do Everything Wrong Like Mentally It Just Wont Click For Me That Day.
The streaks can absolutely kill you, like bodog is with me right now.
Sometimes you catch cards more often than others. When I'm playing over 100 hands and my win % is less than 10%, then it is a short term setback and I slow down my playtime. Especially when you are like 0 for 4 in major pots where you have the odds and your cards don't hold up....thats when you start blowing your stack. I also count how many top 10 hands I get per couple hundred hands...sometimes I will get only 9-9 once for the best and it won't even hold.
If you are a good player you can play through those setbacks and not lose that much. Like a few pages back I posted how its important not to start feeling your hands when you start losing 11 to 1 rivers and start playing hands you don't usually play. Thats when you start losing the most.
Boom! 5th place out of 2338 entrants in the $3 rebuy from 2 days ago... on Pokerstars.. suh-weet!!!! that was just what the doctor ordered...

saaaaweeet!
very nice work mate.
Thats sick mic!
That kinda inspired me to start playing on sites where there is a bit more traffic. On WPEX sometimes you can't always find the game you want and each tourney only has like 50 people on it and I pretty much know 25% of the regular people who play in them. Its a good site with the rakeback and I it has the best software I have ever played with, but its still lacking.
I went back to pokerstars (ironically) and played a freeroll last night...the Canadian one. Shit was it long....15 min blinds is too long. I wasn't prepared and pretty much wanted out of the tourney but it was too easy. 8000 people.....I managed to come in 22nd on my first try and didn't want to play anymore I was too tired....5 hours for my 64 cents...top prize was only 28 bucks. But I still think its funny you can come in 1000th and get 4 cents.
I guess today I will just prey with my 2 quarters.
My boy Mike Vrabel from CT is at the $3000 WSOP no limit hold em final table on ESPN. He finished in 10th, but got a chance to needle Phil Hellmuth, saying "If it wasn't for skill, I'd win every one."
^^ cool
the episodes were pretty hilarious with the usual phil ranting
Jeffrey Lisandro got off the shnide, with a win at the WSOP in the 7 card stud world championship besting Atlantic City's "Little Nicky" Frangos. An ever gracious Lissandro, (after collecting his first bracelet in ten tries at the final table over a period of ten years) told the despondent Frangos, "Don't worry kid, you'll have plenty of chances to get yours" Indeed Lissandro is right, Frangos is in the top 5 amongst stud players in the country and has been at a stud final table every year for the past three years. Stud is not his only game however, he is a master hold 'em player, the only one I have ever seen fold queens preflop on TV. (He was beat) Next week the televised WSOP Main Event begin!
As for me, Tuesday was interesting...
5am $5 rebuy --1st place
6am $6 turbo --2nd place
8am $5 mtt -- 1st place
1040pm $7 $3000 guaranteed -- 3rd place
What Do You Guys Think Of Actually Poker Rooms In Casiono's?
I Went To Atlantic City The Other Day And I Got To Say I Really Didnt Enjoy The Poker Room At All I Got Up And Left In Like An Hour. First Off They Throw You In This Room Seperated From The Rest Of The Casino And Sit You At A Table With All These Annoying Lame People. It Got Boring Real Quickly. I Dont Know Maybe I'm Just Use To Playin With All My Friends But I Couldnt Take It For Long.
Are The Sattilite Tournments Better Or Are They More Of The Same?
When you play at a casino, you must realize that there is a strong likelihood that two or more of the players at the table at least know each other or are flat out colluding. Many times this can lead to an all in all uncomfortable experience, as that is their goal, to destroy your comfort zone and make you want to lose. Bring an I POD. Satellite tournaments are good because they don't last long, usually run under two hours, so its like wham bam thank you maam.
yo Beautifulrock I got a problem!
I played lately with these guys I know but never knew they play poker. They only play cash games and before I played with them I use to win 80% of the time. Since I started playin with them I won maybe 40% of the time. These guys call everything, they raise all the time and money have no mean for them, they dont give a fuck if they loose 1000$ /night. they use to bet preflop big amounts of money. If I survive the first 2 hours and build a nice stack I win most of the time but if I dont then it's a loss fo sho'. sometimes I call desperately and find the guy bettin a 100$ for a pair of 8 for exemple when theres 3 bigger cards in the flop. they're crazy but what can you do against someone who throws big money like he dont care? Sometimes I call but when I loose I have to recave, I care about it and they dont.
help me! :)
I hear this all the time, about cash games with loose players who don't seem to care about money.
Right off the bat, a few things to consider before even playing...
1. Is this game completely "clean"
A. Are the players pooling their money, I. E. do 1 or more players get into an unusual amount of pots together, or does one player seem to dump often to another?
B. Does one player's deals cause incredible action? Do you have a crooked dealer?
C. Does it seem like everyone elses sole intent is to break you. Do other players out of the pot react to pots you win/lose
2. Do I have the proper bankroll to play in this game?
A. Will losing change my mental mindstate, affect me personally/professionally
B. Will I be able to walk away once I've won/lost more that I want to?
C. If I lose will it restrict my ability to play again? Am I risking too high a percentage of my bankroll to recover?
3. Am I good enough to play? Am i right for the game?
A. Am I better/worse than my competition? Are they so much better that i am really relying on luck to win?
B. Do I play a style compatible for a win against their styles? This is the one I will discuss with you in detail if you decide you really want to play in this game.
Ok you seem to believe you can handle the game so now I will tell you how to crack it.
Find a poker buddy, the tightest you can find and get him in the game, this should slow the game down 10-25%, If he can't thats okay, but I like to have a friend along, not to collude, per se, but we agree to play "honestly" against each other ie tip your hand by the way you bet. I don't bluff my friend, I check when on a draw or don't have a hand.
Now you want to play what as known as check-call style...that is you want to let all the action come to you. If you are a good enough reader, you will begin to realize if you are beat or not and therefore dictate the betting action in the later betting rounds. This stlye works best when you flat out ignore position, in fact the more you raise in early position preflop, the better. The idea is to isolate against one player if possible and out of position, after the flop you almost always check first to see and react to your opponents bet. (Use the Check in the dark, it confuses opponents and disguises your hand) Checkraises and call downs are utilized often and river play is absolutely essential, you must not get to three bets without the nuts. The hardest part of this style is reading that final river bet as either a bluff or a real hand. A lot of times even with a great hand I will check first onthe river and simply call a bet rather than go over the top to protect myself.
ok thanx man I'ma try this next time, I got a friend with me but we play honestly bluffin each others and all. I'll try to apply this and let you know. thanx again.
Remeber, if you are first to act, many times a check in the dark will confuse your opponents by disguising your hand and this way you become the last to act. (unless they all check)
roger!

^^^very nice makes the five cashes I had yesterday look like shit.
just wanted to let you know it worked and I played friday and saturday and tried to isolate one player for each good hand I have. I took a friend with me and didnt play against each other. I won alot of $ during these 2 games. thanx again...your technique seems to work :)
peace
^^^you're welcome, anytime.
nice work guys.

heading down to vegas tomomrrow for a weekend of poker and football. were stayin at the wynn and i plan to play the 2-5nl game.
good luck to you
anyone here use sharkscope? www.sharkscope.com
if you dont have an account you get 5 lookups a day (thats all you really need)
They dont have WPEX or Bodog but they have Full Tilt, Pokerstars, Everest, Party Poker and a few others. So the site datamines tourneys and shows who the sharks are. I dont know of the other datamining sites...some of them you arent allowed.
Oh yeah Mic Cord I just looked your "kingjetje" account for fun and it gave these numbers...not bad for what they actually mined:
So if you look up a shitty player it will show a fishbowl animation beside their name and for a good established player it will show an animated shark fin.Code:Username Games Played Av. Profit Av. Stake Av. ROI Total Profit
kingjetje 15 $1 $2 -11% $144
I started looking at that since I started playing at full tilt. WPEX used to have 1000 active members during peak time which was just enough to find a game you want. Now its like 400...going downhill so I cashed out my $300.
^ hahaha!
i prefer the site http://officialpokerrankings.com/
its not about sit n go's but it has multi table tournament results.... pretty interesting to view all the details of those, like total winnings and profits, return on investment etc. etc.
*edit: note my screenname is kingetje though, not kingjetje... 1 "j" too many :hooray:
hi I prefer bluffmagazine.com go to the free poker db
hahaha yeah I couldnt copy that part so I had to add it manually
"shove in tactics is not a style, it a religion, because those who use it are praying all the time" - evilmonkey007
arent you evilmonkey on bodog? I remember looking on the tourney leaderboard and it had the monkey avatar kinda like you used on AP a while back.
On the side note Full Tilt is pretty good so far....at least I can find cash games, SnGs and tourneys all the time when I want. The site makes WPEX seem like a bunch of pros.
yea, thats my quote
I almost left one of the greatest posts ever in this thread, but I accidentally erased it before I could send it. Now I don't feel like doing it over. blah . fuck it.
