:'(....
I havent bought a comic in about 2 months now...my pull is dusty..and realistically i wont have the motivation to catch up...
i call to you all...
what should i know about the DC universe since ive been gone and the marvel universe?
also, assuming i dropped everything...what should i pick up?
^that new batman, inc #1 for sure
marvel and dc are both meh to me right now with the exception of that, daredevil, and journey into mystery...most of the books i was enjoying have lost momentum or become repetitive (batman, animal man, swamp thing)
big smokes...i don't think shang-chi has had a solo ongoing series since the early 80s lol
you should be getting some of the good image stuff like saga, manhattan projects, prophet, fatale, danger club...
i've been working my way through alot of my backlog of books and backissues put i've still been copping my pull.
shang chi, master of kung fu

he doesnt have a series of his own right now.
but he had a marvel max series about 8-10 years ago. adults only title.
he was on the heroes for hire team during world war hulk.
and most recently was involved with the "secret avengers". he had a whole storyline about him last year.
i always liked that character.
@ dusk.
you're really not missing much.
marvels on this a vs x kick. its fun in the 9 year old "who could beat up who" sense.
but they got cap being a total commie dickhead. noone is really acting like themselves in it.
daredevils still really good though. allred's getting ready to draw an issue.
and you have a fury max mini going on by ennis & parlov. good shit.
dc's really shitty right now.
basically they're doing the pre-watchmen shit.
animal man is good, but really slowed to a crawl the past 3 issues.
i gotta say, i really enjoy aquaman. great art. action. its like a good summer movie every issue. nothing groundbreaking, but highly entertaining.
i still fucks with jl dark too. but not much going on there either.
i can see why you havent bought anything, for real. lol
wow that does sound dope^
and Panda u already kno i copped that Inc shit lmao shit was dope
u guys heard of this new MArvel Now Deal, im fearing or the worst, it sounds like the new 52, these fags are goin to combine x-men and avengers, and make a new title called "Uncanny Avengers" i pray to god this does not cause the cancellation of uncanny x-men and wolverine ad the x-men, im not to big on the avengers
^sounds like a good jumping off point for me
i'm guessing most of the marvel books i like are going to end anyway (uncanny x-force, journey into mystery)
you guys should be buying saga, prophet and the manhattan projects....you're fucking up if you're not
trust i feel the same way, im hopin these titles are not affected though,
mite have to start fuckin wit batman again i cut him off a few weeks bak...the dectective comics where getting weak.
anyone keep up with red lantern ?
Detective Comics started weak
saw a bunch of nerds all over the gaslamp 2nite...
I have a question about Batman. Why is it that whenever he is up against a superpowered being, Batman is never challenged? They won't fight him like they would Superman, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Black Adam, etc.

was anybody able to buy 'batman inc #3'? i downloaded it bu my shop won't sell it yet, even though there's nothing in it that's related to the CO shooting (there are some panels of lynched kids that are cartoonishly gruesome, though)
^I'm talking about a fight. Why don't the superpowered humans challenge Batman? Well, Batman has "defeated" Superman several times but it wasn't a fist fight.
the pay off to 'court of owls' in Batman was really stupid and terrible, which is disappointing because it's fairly well written otherwise and the art is excellent...it was like a dumb and basic version of the 'simon hurt' stuff
year one
dark knight returns
the killing joke
long halloween
dark victory (sequel to long halloween)
arkham asylum
the cult
the man who laughs
birth of the demon
prey
joker
gothic
venom
robin year one
batgirl year one
there are more (like no man's land, grant morrison's batman run) but these are the easiest to get into without any continuity baggage
ego and other 'tails' (includes 'selina's big score', a really good selina kyle story)
mad love and other stories
batman: black and white vol. 1-3
^these are particularly good if you're looking for anthologies/short stories
batman the black glove
batman RIP
batman and robin vol 1-2
time and the batman
return of bruce wayne
batman and robin vol 3
batman incorporated vol 1
^all one longform story
^if you start with 'the black glove' get the 'deluxe' edition, it contains two smaller trades: batman and son, and the black glove
also, this story is still continuing in the new volume of batman, inc
^Ok. I will do that.
Punk Rock Jesus FIYAH!!!
yes, punk rock jesus is pretty damn good.
goodbye, scalped.

i'm damn sure gonna miss ya.
and this hawkeye series = seriously good.
I could not find either issue of Hawkeye...I still haven't copped Scalped vol 9 yet...I'll probably just wait until the last volume comes out and 'marathon' it.
Oh snap

I should probably chill on the comics and buy a phone with a better camera, but fuck it
I've kind of given up on monthlies except for the stuff I can't live without, the fact that most of the Marvel Now! stuff looks like shit is extremely helpful
Also, I'm a good way through the New X-Men Omni and it's still classic stuff, the last two arcs which I hated years ago (2004?) make alot more sense to me now even if i'm not entirely sold on them...the first 2/3 of the book is incredible and i have even developed a non-ironic love of the igor kordey issues, and frank quitely, ethan van sciver, and phil jimenez murder it...the only fill-in artist who i didn't like was the guy who penciled the first appearance of quentin quire.
The Love and Rockets stuff I've never read before, but I know it's well regarded and the art is excellent, so hey.
I have all of the issues in the Grendel Omnibus but it's nice to get the Hunter Rose stories in one book...It took me like 15 years to get every issue of Grendel, including spinoffs and crossovers and now they finally start collecting it. Why this series rarely ever gets discussed as classic is mind-boggling to me. This was one of the series that really expanded my mind on what comics can do.
I'm really eager to get into the Invisibles Omni as I read some of it years ago, but never got the whole story...the book is a fucking beast though.
I sold off alot of my collection over the last month or two and ditched alot of mediocre-good stuff and unread or just meh omnibuses and shit am trying to just spend money on shit I think is really good.
I unintentionally stopped picking up monthly and missed out on allred doin daredevil Smfh
The invisibles is particularly awesome to be reading given the year we're in...
^i know! i haven't started it yet because it's such a big ass bitch, i'm going to wait until i read the other books
DD 17 was cool...mainly a flashback and probably one of the weaker issues in the series so far, but still good
have you read any grendel or love and rockets? they seem like your type of shit
always meant to, sporadic issues of both tho.
check the other thread a couple of comic added
met Chris Bachalo yesterday besides my comics I got this signed too

^^^^^nice
It's awesome.
There are some bits where the art is not as good as other parts (the artists alternate on almost every though phil jiminez draws alot of it and he's quality), but the overall story is fantastic, the ideas are fascinating, the characters are interesting, there's some genuinely weird and creepy scenes/dialogue...even though i guess it's dated now since there are references and scenes in 2012 (and the technology and social evolution is still far beyond where we are now), i still highly recommend it.
by the time i finished it, it was definitely firm in my top 10 favorite comics series of all time, and just you asking me about makes me want to read it again (it took me like 2.5 months to read it initially)
damn, this thread has been dead for a hot minute.
The last 2 volumes of Scalped were cool, although it seemed like Aaron was rushing towards the conclusion, particularly in Volume 10. I need to marathon through that whole series soon.
What is everyone reading these days? I read Nexus Omnibus Vol. One, and that is boss; weird 80s scifi quasi-superhero series, think intergalactic Punisher guided by his dreams if he was a genius, had a girlfriend and actual friends. Orc Stain and King City are also dope, and I think people should check out. Brandom Graham, the artist/writer of King City also has a mini series 'Multiple Warheads' which is awesome. His art's like this incredibly hybrid of Moebius, Vaughn Bode, and Masamune Shirow

I'll post up the books I've gotten recently that I need to read when I get home.
KZA, do you post at CBR?
On the omnibus thread most of the time. I think I've seen you post there before.
