thelma (Norwegian cinema, they killed it)
Mother! with Javier Bardem kinda mindfucked me. I'm still guessing if Bardem is supposed to be Satan in persona or just some demon from hell or something completely different. In any case he's playing something evil. Jennifer Lawrence deserves an Oscar for this one. And I'm usually not a big fan of her.
OK THATS this, I’m sold
finding that movie today
mother that is
just finished it, crazy crazy concept , So many religious references , so many things he could actually represent, my opinion is that he represents God, i think it’s about how poeple give their all to God and still end up being punished for some reason or another, the fact that in the end , someone New is created suggests he might be representing god or even the devil as you stated
i also like the Cain and abel reference with the brothers killing each other, so much symbolism in this joint
thanks for the recommendation
Glad you liked it!
True. I almost forgot someone new was created in the end. However, it seems it wasn't done by the 'author' himself. Somehow it seems to be part of a higher logic. For me the 'author' is trying hard to capture what's the beauty around him that was already created. When he's able to do so, forces of the evil erupt. Your idea about him being god made me thinking. If he's supposed to be a god, he's a struggling one, bound to that place I guess. And he's dependent on love only in its materialized form. He has trouble to fuck Jennifer Lawrence in a loving way. Complete mindfuck!

^^^^anither bizarre one
The Witch is fantastic. It reminded me of Kubrick with all the use of symbolism throughout. Theres a lot of social commentary about womens place in society. What did you think about that, Graveyard?
there were 2 types of women in the film, the loud obnoxious, nut clipping over bearing do nothing with self broad as represented by the mother who annoyed me all through the movie and is actually the kind of woman i detest with a passion these days and the more subtle, collected, well mannered, unfortunately with not much control over their situation or surroundings kind of woman represented by the daughter who they were plotting to give away which is a practice that makes me sick to my stomach even though from the situation presented in the movie, i can kinda see why they had to even consider it, it was either that or starve to death. either way, i think the contrast in women in the movie was a refreshing aspect of it that made it even more doper for me
Yeah with the family being religious nuts the mother really had no freedom, she was a slave to her superstitions and fears whereas the daughter felt she could be something more.
Which I think is like a lot of women over the last few hundred years, the daughter is able to change her thinking, and experience greater freedom and the mother is jealous or scared that shes doing it.
