Comedy? Yanks fucking bum the Office and Monty Python, and that's the tip of the Iceberg for just British comedy, once you cross the language barrier on the continent you'll find there's a funny bunch of fuckers out there, that actually understand irony. While I acknowledge there is good comedy over in the States (Curb Your Enthusiasm, John Belushi, Richard Pryor), its incomparible to Britain, let alone the rest of the continent. Friends and Chappelle (this guy is about as funny as Friends) just don't cut it. South Park and the Simpsons? Maybe 8 years ago it was on a par. The best comedy America ever came up with was Bill Hicks, and they hated the guy, philistines. While Chris Rock was seen as a revelation, I think we managed to establish he was black just by looking at him, recycling what Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor did a decade previously isn't what I'd call groundbreaking, but maybe I'm just a snob when it comes to comedy..
The language? I already stated that when I talked about dumbed down spellings and loose fitting grammatic conventions, and thats just English. Given there are a good 30 languages that have evolved over the course of a couple thousand years, with many breaking off and forming their own languages, blending together with others (eg; Flemish, English and Swiss). This fits in with the culture stuff too.
The fashion I already mentioned, but sweatshop wares have never really counted as 'American' clothing to me. While I may not be able to speak for everyone, I can say quite confidently that I only have maybe 4 items of American clothing, 2 of which are shoes, one is a football shirt made by Nike (in Vietnam) and the other is a pair of Gap Boxer shorts (made in a Singapore sweatshop, I think) there might even be a pair of jeans lying around somewhere too. I dunno about all this talk of clogs though, europe has like 750 million people, 16 million of them are Dutch.. I suppose you think the French wear berets and striped tank tops all the time as well, oh while riding a bike with a baguette in the basket and playing with a stupid moustache (that being just the women, obviously).. Designers from France and Italy (despite being lame queers) appear to be highly coveted by America, in fact I'm sure their outlets make them a great deal of money in Beverly Hills and the like.
I couldn't care less in any case, the fact that i have a fiver in my pocket and thats worth 10 dollars kinda put the entire debate into context for me.
