what a bunch of geeky faggitsQuote:
As many of you read this on your computer, your Playstation 3 lies dormant, useless, and a shell of its former self. That is to say, the Playstation Network is down.
That’s right, for the second time this month one of the largest gaming companies in the world has had its gaming network taken down by a group of hackers. Although it is currently unconfirmed whether or not they accept responisibilty for the outage, it is most likely the work of Anonymous.
Anonymous is a group of individuals with no definable leader which originated mostly on the image boards of 4chan. They pride themselves in believing in justice, freedom of speech and in being united; as shown by their slogan “We are anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.”
Now you may ask, what do they have against Sony, bringers of joy and entertainment to millions? What could a group of internet vigilantes have against them, and what would prompt them to take down their Playstaion Network and their website, costing them huge amounts of money? Enter George Hotz, AKA Geohot.
Geohot is an American hacker, famous for hacking the iPhone so that it could be used on wireless networks other than AT&T. In 2009, he announced his plans to hack the Playstation 3, as many regarded it to be far more secure than the Xbox 360. Not long after that, on January 26th of 2010, Geohot released the details of a method of exploiting the PS3 to allow homebrew and Playstation 2 emulation.
Things got worse when in 2011, on January 2nd, he posted the Root Keys to Playstation 3, and Sony immediately forced him to remove them. They filed a temporary restraining order, and entered into a lawsuit. They also demanded, and were granted, the IP addresses of anyone that visited his website www.geohot.com and they seized his PayPal account.
They proceeded to sue Geohot, and his blog about the lawsuit can be found here.
Actual photo of Geohot
This is where anonymous started to have a problem. On April 3rd, they attacked the Sony Corporation, crashing both their website and the entire Playstation Network. They issued a rather harrowing, though somewhat humorous message;
It reads;
Congratulations, Sony. You now have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our follow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable.”
You have now abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have victimised your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach the world for free. The very same information you wish to suppress for sake of corporate greed and complete control of the users.
Now you will experience the wrath of Anonymous. You saw a hornets nest, and stuck your penises in it. You must face the consequences of your actions, Anonymous style.
Knowledge is Free. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not Forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.
The Network only stayed down for about a day, and the website even less than that. Playstation 3 gamers urged Anonymous not to repeat the attack, as it was making them, the people Anonymous was trying to protect, suffer just as much. Anonymous released a statement saying they would find another method of attack. Sony also settled their lawsuit with Geohot out of court.
This would seem to suggest that this recent outage has nothing to do with anonymous, but as they operate independently without a leader, it could easily be a different group of people. You and I are just as much a member of anonymous as they are, all you have to do is call yourself one. That is what they see as the beauty behind the organisation.
Nonetheless, this is an unusual occurrence for such a large company, especially with Sony stating the outage could last for days. Whether it is a simple maintenance problem or digital terrorist vigilantes, we don’t know yet. However, you can rest assured, as soon as we find out, you’ll be the first to know.
Leave a comment on what you think of the situation. Should Anonymous back off, or are they just protecting our righ
so to protect ps3 users and their right to information, they take down the psn so the ps3 users cant use it?
fucking geeky social outcast faggits
all these internet crusaders can eat a dick.
i dont give a fuck about what they think they are doing.
hack into something that matters and how dont the japs have counter hackers? smh computer faggots
they have done some good in the past they reported to the cops on some guy who showed pics or videos of himself abusing animals iirc
also the recent beef they have with the westboro baptist church
HAHAHAH!! geniusQuote:
If they wanted to piss sony off they should have made everything in the Playstation store $0.00 and let the looting begin.

I don't think this has got anything to do with anon, especially now this court case they were crying over has finished

I might be in denial but i am pretty confident theyll do their best to protect their database from outside intruders.
A company can go out of business from legal liability if they lose customers financial info to intruders

Latest Update for PSN/Qriocity Services
We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information for those who wish to consider it:
U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus place a “fraud alert” on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however, that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you, it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report, please contact any one of the agencies listed below.

Wow 77 million users details stolen.

PlayStation Network hackers access data of 77 million users
Sony says hackers have accessed personal information, but says there is no evidence of credit card details theft
Sony has warned that the names, addresses and other personal data of about 77 million people with accounts on its PlayStation Network (PSN) have been stolen.
Gamers have been locked out of the network for a week, but the company has revealed that the system has been suspended since it was hacked last Wednesday.
Sony said it discovered that between 17 and 19 April an "illegal and unauthorised person" got access to people's names, addresses, email address, birthdates, usernames, passwords, logins, security questions and more.
Children with accounts established by their parents also may have had their data exposed, according to Sony, which put the warning on its US PlayStation blog – although the warning about the compromise might not be immediately visible to passing readers. The company is also emailing people who might be affected.
The intrusion is potentially one of the biggest ever into a store of credit cards. Sony's PSN is one of the world's biggest holders of credit cards, though not as large as Amazon, eBay, PayPal or Apple's iTunes, which each hold more than 100m accounts.
The previous largest hacking attacks were on Heartland Payment Systems in January 2009, when up to 100m US credit and debit card details were stolen, and TK Maxx in March 2007, when up to 46m credit card details were stolen.
The company said that it saw no evidence that credit card numbers were stolen, but it added: "Out of an abundance of caution, we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained,"
The online marketplace launched in autumn 2006 and allows users to purchase and play video games, music and films on their PlayStation consoles.
The hack attack has put it out of action and it says that it may be up to a week before it is operational again.
Sony said it had hired an outside security firm to investigate what happened and has taken steps to rebuild its system to provide greater protection for personal information.
PlayStation members are required to submit credit card and personal details to play online games and download software, films and music.
Warning users of the network to be on the look out for telephone and email scams,
Sony said: "To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we encourage you to remain vigilant to review your account statements and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports."
PlayStation Network posted an apology to users through the Sony website saying it would email those who are suspected to be victims of the hacking.
It said: "We don't have an exact date to share at this moment as to when we will have the services turned on, but are working day and night to ensure it is as quickly as possible.
"Please note that we are as upset as you are regarding this attack and are going to proceed aggressively to track down those that are responsible."
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at security firm Sophos, told the BBC that the theft of so much detailed customer information would be seen as a "public relations disaster".
"This is a big one," he said.
yea
if they werent doing due dillegence then theyre stupid and will get into some shit llegally
Sony have already fucked up by not keeping personal details in the online equivalent of Fort Knox so if they start charging everybody to play online it'll be the final nail in the coffin
All they needed to do was keep details encrypted, which they apparently didnt? Even the passwords were stored in plaintext I've heard.
Meanwhile, at microsoft,
http://randomoverload.com/wp-content...ing-smiley.jpg
^are you fucking kidding me? where did you hear that?
that would be very careless of them.
Time to buy a Xbox. I wonder how long they store information. They might have my credit too.
