I voted 90's as I simply can't remember a lot of music from the 90's I can enjoy today.
as a hip hop fan have to disagree jasp. my vote is the 50s, cos i don't listen to it. simple as that. out of the others, maybe 80s, even then, it made some great music, just that the bad music was that much worse.
The 90's were mostly dominated by all kinds of music I don't like; house, grunge and hip hop. I mostly hate those Greenday, Dog Eat Dog and Nirvana bands. 90's music quality was bad because they weren't ready for digital media.
The 50's gave us great crooners and some of the best female artists. Great country music from the 50's too.
you don't like hip hop?! posting on wu corp and making beats?!!!
thats ridiculous hip hop owned the 90s, and since its better than every other music genre you are foolish. whats your favorite decade. i'd say 90s followed by 70s.
Nope, hate hip hop. A bunch of rude men being angry, speaking just fast enough so there's no time for critical thinking. I do like hip hop beats. But most good hip hop beats are samples from 70's songs.
That's where it's at, the 70's. Best decade for music, the most creative period in music.
being angry? some angry music can be good but thats not all hip hop dude you gotta listen to more stuff. you must like wu-tang at least?
I was generalising. I don't like Wu Tang neither. I do like Project Pat. But the Hip Hop genre is terrible.
lol
It's only gettin' worser... so 00's
When i think of 00's the only song that comes to mind is Riding Dirty.
as much as I dislike the 2000s musically, I'll never dislike a decade of music more than the 80s
and I wanna know if the people voting 50s can even name a song from that era without google lol
lmao the 80s...get real people
i say the 80s
For me it's the 80's because it's simply boring. All those crappy outdated programmed drums and synths and boring arrangements, plus in order to make songs more futuristic and modern, producers lost all the organic touch that earlier music had.(plus the abolition of vinyl and introduction of digital technology)
Best music for me was in the 70's because it had all the old flavor from earlier decades(jazz, soul, funk) combined with inovations(progressive rock, jazz fusion, electronic) that were exploited much more in later decades.
90's is all about Hip Hop and Rage against the machine. And prodigy.
why all the hate on the 80's?
The 70's had disco music, which was way underrated. The 80's was classic, which had nu wave, one of the best genres of all time. And many gems that have gotten played on the radio over the years. The 90's was definitely the best overall, in terms of hip hop and alternative music. Yo MTV Raps. 120 Minutes. I didn't even like heavy metal, but you would still watch Headbanger's ball. The 00's is easily the worst, unless you're a teenage girl, deformed, or a fat person.
The 50's and all the Elvis shit he stole from black folk..
a bit of a reactionary statement. to be honest i thought the same thing when i was a militant asshole teenager, but realistically musicians all steal from each other. elvis (and his collaborators) were actually quite inventive, taking country music and putting the harder edge of black rock n roll music with it.
theres conflicting information on whether or not he was a racist, but logically he'd have to respect the musicians that paved the way for his career. then again maybe he was a massive racist.
the 80s had probably more bad songs than any other genre, and it also felt like everyone followed the trend of using synths and fake drums in their records, as soon as the 80s were over a bunch of soul and rock artists went back to their old methods.
i definitely agree with check about new wave, because i think it was a catch all for the best of the 70s, shame it didn't last longer.
Who is the nigger faggot who voted 70's? You faggot ass nigger, I hope your organs fall out next time you take a shit faggot. You should get your eardrums pierced, homo. Oh my God, what a cunt.
How many of you who voted the 00's can honestly say you like more music from the 50s or 80s than the 00s? What the fuck were you listening to the last decade?? You can say what you want about the overall quality about mainstream music lately, but no other decade comes close to the diversity we're seeing nowadays. If you can't find new quality music, regardless of what genre your looking for, it's your own damn fault. The same couldn't be said 60 years ago.
OT: Voted for the 50s because I have no clue if there's anything at all from the decade that I would sit and listen to today. But when reconsidering, I should've gone for the 70s or 80s.. The 60s, 90s and 00s are far better than the other decades in the poll, imho.
90% of the best hip hop beats are sampled from 70's music. So much awesome music was made in the 70's. So much creativity. Progressive Rock. Drug induced themed albums. There's a certain quality to the sound of the 70's. Hip hop was build on that sound from the 70's and the most memorable drum breaks still used in todays music come from late 60's/ 70's music. The 70's is where and when hip hop started.
Seriously, think about it.
I still want to punch the faggit who voted 70's. You are a homo. You don't deserve to breathe. Nigger.
Blaxploitation mother fucker. Funkadelics, queer. Without the 70's there would be no hip hop. There would be no Wu Tang. How the fuck can you even discard the 70's?
All those funky ass library joints are from the 70's. That ill ass drums sounds on the best hip hop beats are still breaks from the 70's. How can you hate on that?
all that ill ass soundtracks used on hip hop beats, 70's. All those memorable guitar riffs, 70's. Motherfucking Pink Floyd, 70's.
Yes, I'm mad. I hate you nigger.
even if i enjoy more music from the 90s, i would vote 70's for the best decade of music on general principle. i think this should just be universally understood.
was bumping 'dark side of the moon' earlier, crazy stuff. funny how it sounds more like jazz or soul than rock music.
60s were great also, all that motown, stax, beatles etc
80's for sure, I occasionally enjoy some phil collins, but I still realise that objectively it's shitty pop music.
I'm assuming the people voting for the 50's are doing so because they aren't familiar with the music?
The 80's had some hilariously great anthem like tunes.
Good point. The reason i voted 00' as the worst was because i couldnt think of any memorable songs off the top of my head like i could the other eras. Of coarse 50's and 60's i couldnt either, but i know they have better music than 00'. Ive bought more albums in 00' than any other era, it doesnt mean that i really like the songs coming out then as much as the other eras. So possibly my vote was premature and in 10 years ill find 00' to be better than some.
Whoever voted for 90's wtf
90's had plenty to offer in a lot of genres Of music, I voted for 80's.
Btw nice to see 60's has no votes yet, that's the way it will likely stay anyone who votes for 60's doesn't even deserve the gift of hearing haha
Wow, I thought the 80's was gonna dominate this poll by a huge margin. I think a lot of people are voting from a hip hop or even pop music perspective, in which case yes, the 2000's is a fair choice. But like that other dude said, there is plenty of good 2000's music out there if you look for it. I personally don't really listen to modern music at all. I'm a 60's/70's fan. But a lot of music I heard through the 2000's sounded pretty decent. I'm talking about proper bands here. Not the pop garbage they play on commercial radio.
But the main thing is that the 2000's did not have a general offensive sound or vibe like the 80's did. Though there was some great music in the 80's, the general sound of that era was horrible and has aged terribly. I would almost say it's inarguable that music from the 80's has aged worse than any other period of music. The only other period you could really argue has aged worse would be the 50's and maybe the early 60's.
It's most noticable when you actually listen to the discography of a band or artist who has been around since the 60's or 70's and through to the 2000's, and their 80's albums are the only unlistenable work they've put out. I've encountered a few bands/artists like that.
Also, it's not really relevant to the discussion, but the look of 80's music, like the presentation of musicians, was also absolutely horrible and unforgivable. Again I would say inarguably worse than any other period.
Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus alone are enough to rank the 50s lowest on the list.
Whoever voted for the 90's should smack themselves
I voted for the 2000's, could be just me getting older but Fuck if every Genre of Music didnt start to suck about 6-7 years ago
So much shit falls into 2 categories, either everyone sounding the same, or cats going way too far into the fruitcake zone to sound diffrent
You know the 2000's Suck when Kanye West and Jack White are viewed as our biggest Icons
9 people said the 80s. When Hip hop was born, and MJ created Thriller....yeah...''Real bad decade there'' numb nuts
this is the dumpest poll i've ever seen. i mean seriously? ya can't so simple just say this decade was better than that. every one of them has it's own uniqueness.
way too subjective
lol @ 80s
this forum is a joke
I don't listen to the 50's much but it had good jazz.
I used to listen to 60's and 70's music when I was younger - The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, David Bowie. There were good psychedelic and progressive rock bands that came out. Krautrock was also enjoyable to listen to and bands started to get more electronic and experimental during this time. Punk bands emerged. Soul musicians like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield were good.
The 80's and 90's had my favorite bands - Pixies, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Replacements, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Sleater-Kinney. Also rappers - A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap. Post-punk and alternative/indie rock were my favorite genres. Hip Hop is enjoyable. I didn't like most of the New Wave bands though.
The 00's was weak. Alternative/Indie rock was just not as good as the 80's and 90's. The 10's is better in hip hop than the 00's already - Lil B, Spaceghostpurrp, ASAP Rocky, Main Attrakionz, Odd Future. Future Garage is good. Pictureplane and Crystal Castles are some of the music I also enjoy right now. I don't think alternative/indie rock will ever be as good as before.
Yeah.
Are you serious? In the zeros Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Morphine and some others of the best alternative/indie rock bands put out works (under an obvious evolution of the whole music compared to what was released the past two decades) technically at the same level if not better than what was previously released.
