Waaaay too long after his hype has ended though.
^^ yup. Don't have high hopes for this but we'll see. The answer to "what the Fuck is a Jay Electronica" appears to have recently been answered on Twitter:

If it's good, it's good.
He spits brilliant verses, and supposedly Alchemist produced on this album. Assuming it's really coming, I'm optimistic.
i dont care really
Apparently Jay-Z is gonna be all over this.
^^
Canibus all over again me thinks?
jay z is washed... always has been.
jay elec is... rated for nothing.
alchemist is predictable and boring.
i have better lines about yu gi oh than jay elec.
dont understand this hype at all.
and he raps over a DOOM beat. wtf is this amateur hour.
another thing i dont understand is how many shitty and similar producers are out nowadays.
seriously this dude sounds like Mr. Muthafuckin Xquire.
i remember hearing one Jay Elec verse way back in the day and it was hot. this wtf is a jay elec tape is like... nothing special.
and the amount of people jizzing over this guy is unreal. i feel like im missing something but... im not.
this style of hip hop is... dead imo.
You really think Jay Elec sounds like eXquire?! Jay-Z was always washed?
I mean the hype is more than he deserves, given that he could have made at least 3 or 4 albums since he first blew up, but I enjoy Jay Elec's stuff. He already has a bunch of songs that are considered classics without even dropping an album. I mean if you don't like him you don't like him but I don't think you can say on a technical level that he isn't a good writer or rapper.
I'm honestly not sure what to make of Jay-Z's involvement, a lot of people are saying this is the only way Jay-Z could get Elec to finally release an album.
i truly think his voice sounds like Xquires at times/most of the time, yes. easily.
Jay Z has been doing the same thing since 97 or whenever. i cant even listen to Reasonable Doubt in its entirety anymore, i fall off during the end because im just like... okay enough of that. i cant listen to any Jay z albums front to back actually because its however many tracks of the same. the same the same. beats aint even any different tbh with you.
dude has just made himself into a robot programmed to rap about the same stuff.
and all this Jay Elec guy is "different" at is being more alien orientated with higher powers and supreme teachings of spiritual shit from what ive been gathering through his lyrics of his recent shit. and the fact that he's trying to be politically forward and progressive is a drag to me.
Exhibit A was the first track i heard from him. and i like it cause of the Vonnegut line. and i liked that track at the time. looking back on it now, he flows a lot like Nas. Exhibit C too.
but like one track, or two tracks over the amount of time he's had... does not make you a good artist/writer imo.
Canibus is a monster, he has albums on albums if he's your cup of tea but he's got 2000 BC and no one can take away a classic album from an artist.
Jay Elec aint got shit. who knows this album he drops could be godly. but im not into this shit anymore, if your a writer you write, you grow you make new styles you create and evolve.
how many tracks has this guy released? lol. and then he comes out with an wtf is jay elec tape? that was what it was. (imo, lack luster).
seems like everyones praising this guy for being lazy and unmotivated.
shit. Earl Sweatshirt has some nice bars and knows how to write and the guy hates people/attention but he keeps coming out with projects because hes a writer. mind you i did not like any of Earls last two projects at all but you can say he gets a lot of hype as well like this guy does.
at the end of the day, im a writer too and my references are better than Jay Elec's. thats word is bond
I mean this album will have a huge buzz but I really can't call it. Jay-Z is unpredictable in terms of the quality of stuff he puts out.
They already have some tracks together but I can't really imagine them fitting together over a whole project. Jay-Z is really smart but his style has such an emphasis on money, and Elec has rarely mentioned money in his raps.
canibus was a lot more hungry than this guy and that wyclef album happened early in his career. a mistake obviously by canibus that he knew as soon it happened. all jay z is gonna do (if anything) is "executive produce" the album and oversee everything. wyclef actually made some shitty beats on that Canibus album. but canibus also had a lot of wack rhymes on that tape too. but im sure a lot of people would over those beats.
that doesnt matter. this guy is just a lazy bum imo. or else he isnt as good of a writer/spitter that all you guys think he is.

Album is out. It's very good. I could do without Jay-Z pretending to be spiritual on every song, but as far as beats and rhymes go it's a really inspired, well crafted project.
^^
whats that have to do with anything>?
i just think this guy is a bum.
im give this a listen. already though right off the rip, who lets the first verse of HIS own album be a feature?
like i said this guy is a bum. ill report back later
...
def not bad. Jigga actually.... does a good fucking job. he shows a shit ton of versatility. talking/singing on tracks, switching up the subject matter. i think hov may take the cake on this.
jay elec bores me throughout this, more of the exact same. but i guess thats what the people wanted, i wouldnt be surprised if he re used verses on this tape.
is that The Dream i hear on Ezekilis Wheel? dude is a monster with the hooks, Kanye used to use him a lot, that track was a breath of fresh air atmosphere wise.
this is like Watch the Throne.
yeah i mean. ill give this a couple more listens. i dont like jay elec and im not the biggest jay z fan but through and through this aint a bad listen in the slightest.
if i were a jay elec fan. id be pissed.
lmao!
thats like me wanting an Aesop Rock album and having to listen to Homeboy Sandman too. which they did with the head lice ep's.
so rough break down.
you got 10 tracks on here
1 is an intro with no verses.
10 is mostly jay and an outro, tiny jay elec verse/whatever.
so you got 7 tracks with about 2 minutes of verse a piece by jay elec as the beats play out a lot on this tape, which is fine. and a 1:30 second featureless verse.
a "debut album" with... roughly, give or take, 20 minutes worth of verse from jay elec.
you cant tell me this dude aint a fucking, lazy unmotivated one trick bum.
Jay z is painful to listen to now. Every time he spits, I’m just waiting for him to spit a lame generic verse?
i think jigga is fresh on this one tbh.
i honestly think he takes a lot of the shine away from jay elec.
hov has a lot of energy on this. i actually like a lot of his verses on this as i thought they were different than his norm. i also do not like jay z.
really... if your gonna say this is a 'jay electronica' album you can very well say that it is a jay z album as well.
So what was your point? Is he painful to listen to, lame and generic or fresh?
People are getting upset that Elec dissed jews on this record, and I have to say I'm not a fan of some of the religious/political views on this record. But I'm sure there have been plenty of racist rap albums or just raps that I don't agree with that I've enjoyed over the years so if he really is saying some fucked up shit (I think there's room for interpretation) it doesn't bother me too much.
The whole album is getting repeat spins, that last song is beautiful.
if i understand zoophile correctly he is in the same boat as mister yo... as in we think jay z is a lame but he is surprisingly fresh on his album with jay elec.
jay z is not a business man hes a business man.
and tbh with you sha i doubt jay elec knows what he said about the jews and what it meant either, the annanaki who studied theorized gaddafi flew in from andromeda wearing dashikis placed a string of syllables in his head that he later interpreted as his written testament with h to tha izzo
@ Sha........What Mr Yo said!
Haha
I find Jay-Z hit and miss. He's definitely one of the smartest rappers in the game and he's made classics but he went through a period in the 00s, spilling over into the 10s where he really believed his own hype and was trying way too hard to make pop hits. He made a few good albums in that period, but most of them are unlistenable.
But yeah he wrote a bunch of songs like 'Soon You'll Understand' before he hit that phase that are genius. I think 4.44 and this are very good, he's dropped the idea of trying to make another mainstream hit and its much more creative and interesting.
This was way better than I thought it would be
i'm surprised there are this many replies for the album
Got to check a few songs the other day. Not bad at all. Peace
