thank you for the clip
in its original form the album might have been 5 mics. as it stands maybe 3.5 to 4 mics?
Always thought it was a boring album. Tical 2000 is way way better
I agree. Take off the skits from 'Tical 2000' and it's a classic
I just read Meth apologizes to Destiny's Child in the same interview over some 2001 incident that has clearly lived on lived long in Meth's head for no good reason I can think of. just goes to show Method Man is a decent human being I guess
https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.71462/t...-2001-incident
also from the interview, Meth on Budden

Also I felt tical was like og star wars. Dark and gritty. While tical 2000 was more like the prequels. Still good but abit more refined then tical.
Tical sounded rough and gritty... 2000 was the better album
Both albums were mad grimy, 2000 had some polish to it, but is still 94% grimy..
I've always has a hard time comparing Tical and T2000...like comparing Enter the Wu-Tang and forever. Great albums for different reasons and completely different in general
Is she? I think Rihanna is bigger right now
i got tical when it dropped back in the day and that album got 4.5 mics in the source and it shoulda been 5 mics in my humble opinion there isnt a bad song on tical
the beats originally meant for Tical were lost in the first flood and some were reconstructed from scratch. no way to tell if they sound the same

for those who love Tical, I most enjoy this version :
https://www.discogs.com/release/6245...thod-Man-Tical
while it doesn't say so on the Discogs page it was a then new 2014 remaster. it allows me to hear the bass better (I have hearing loss on low tones). if you enjoy the bottom end on Tical you may want to give this a listen online to see if it appeals to you
because of bad hearing I hardly ever hear the difference between a regular version and a remaster (unless it wipes out hiss). Tical is one of the very few albums where I hear a clear difference so if I hear it you'll definitely hear it
yes there were two floods
the ambrosiaforheads link above has rza describe the events and other issues he had with water, it's a good read imo (short article)
I'd say Tical is classic, I think all the songs are memorable and a part of hip hip history. Only thing I don't like is the muddy mix. I must have forgot a remaster existed, I should check that out.
Tical 2000 might be even better, but the songs didn't have a cultural impact like his debut. So thats more of a fan choice.
AFAIK there are 2 'Tical' remasters
there's a 2000 version https://www.discogs.com/release/607291-Method-Man-Tical
and then there's a 2014 different remaster, the one I linked to above (search for 'deluxe version' online)
since this article https://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...-on-Def-JamUMe says 'newly remastered' (2014), I take it this means the deluxe version did not use the 2000 remaster, but the album was remastered once again in I guess a more qualitative way (whatever that means)
I haven't heard the 2000 one, so can't comment on that one

I hope DX is paying Math Hoffa for milking his Meth interview for a gazillion articles this week lol
I would have preferred if Razor Sharp mix was on the album instead, that version is best, then l.p. version, never cared for Puff Daddy mix, although I know it was done to give it some commercial appeal.. I hate it when labels put the better sounding version of a song on a single and then they mad when the single outsells the album, although that was not the case in this instance
Sorry I have it on double CD but my Chromebook does not have a CD drawer that would allow me to rip the album for you. it's the only computer in the house
I see Qobus has a free trial period which allows you to stream the deluxe remastered album for free so you can see if you hear differences with the original version
https://www.qobuz.com/be-nl/album/ti.../0060253798293
a DL (instead of streaming) on there looks pricey though. a hard copy via Discogs is probably cheaper
I see the qobuz url has location in it (be-nl), if the link does not pan out for you in your region, qobuz.com has a search function on its homepage too
you're welcome

This is the short version. Does anyone have the long version can share here ? peace
5 Mics is a bit much but The Source gave it 4 which I think was pretty accurate. It's still a Wu-Classic without a doubt. Like someone mentioned earlier Tical 2000 could've been considered better than Tical if it didn't have about 12-14 skits on it. I don't know whose idea was that. He was just missing that "Hit" from Tical 2000. The album went Platinum just off Mef's name alone lol but it didn't have a "All I Need" or "Bring the Pain" caliber type track.
Dangerous Grounds got regular spins on Hot 97 back when the album dropped, it was huge out here.. Judgement Day and Break Ups 2 Make Ups were not too bad either
Filthy Rich knows his stuff

more DX coverage of the Hoffa interview
Tical is still a legendary album despite not being 5 mics. Its a solid 4.5 / 4 at worst.
tical 2 was dope but i only use the wu/hav production. I dont like meth over sermon like that
i just swap songs with the rza n math stuff from blackout as imo they seem to have been origibally for tival 2000 as they fit right in production wise. Run 4 cover. Cereal killer, Fire in the hole on tical 2, mived the erick stuff to blackout
that was a hell of a run imo nonetheless
Budden talks about Meth's interview with Math Hoffa
https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.72035/t...s-wu-tang-clan
eh sounds plausible
all of this is way in the past anyway
tical is 5 stars in my opinion and meth is the GOAT
really? Cause I remember judgement day being in HEAVY rotation on TRL and Direct Effect back in the day. Didn't have Rap City cause I lived in a hell hole but I'm sure it was played even more on there. Judgement Day imo is method man's best song, though not my favorite song of his. Everything that makes method man great is in full display on that song. The next closest is Bring Da Pain then METHOD MAN.
T2000 and Blackout are what made Method Man an A-list rapper through the early 2000s and that's where most ppl beyond hip hop came to encounter him. He was on MTV every 2 seconds for a good 4 years lol
I agree with Hollow Dartz there are way too many skits on T2000 which makes it a hard listen for me and a reason why I rarely listen to it.
This thread makes me need to go back and listen to Tical, T2000 and Blackout because I feel like I under appreciated Meth’s solo work back in the day his albums are probably my least played of those guys who dropped stuff from like 94 to 98
