Ethical or unethical, this is what it takes to create a great Wu album. If you have to bamboozle the artists involved, then so be it. But based on the leaked songs I heard, this “okey doke Yakub” experiment was well worth it. I've said it once and I'll say it again: While the copy and paste stuff does degrade the album and it makes it seem less majestic and such, I do feel and agree with Method Man that this definitely damaged Wu's image and reputation.

Regardless how you feel with the whole "fans got 20+ years of music" and such, considering that the Wu-Tang Clan came from poor backgrounds and such and understand the struggle of youth and young people within our world, especially from places like Staten Island, deciding to make an album ONLY accessible to a rich bastard and then put an annoying clause to keep it from the public is just even more insulting.


I can bet that when people bring up the name "Wu-Tang Clan", chances are someone is gonna go "oh yeah they sold that one album to that rich asshole".

And that's not even getting to how even RZA, who kept preaching how this was such a great thing and how he didn't "regret" selling it to Shkreli (which is laughable because he kept changing his mind about it), barely acknowledges it unless someone asks him about it.

And while the Clan seems to only acknowledge 36 Chambers/Wu-Tang Forever or repeatedly remember people to PROTECT YA NECK, there's no doubt that before OUATIS, everyone at least had a love for the W logo they always proudly shown. And now that's tarnished after this album.

And while PleasrDOA somewhat meditated this with their whole crypto purchase of the album, who the hell knows when the album will finally be unlocked. I used to peep at their twitter every few days to see if there was something I was missing, but it's just the same shtick and the countdown is still on 78 years. Even if the album does come out by some magical bull, it isn't going to live up to the hype. And I think RZA knows this, but would rather live in his own world praising the album as an art piece when the release and execution could have been far better than what we got in this timeline.

I don't really think Ringz is the villain here, since he has made it clear he did put his heart and soul into the album, regardless of "copy and pasting", but it's very much there that to him, this was the only way to get his work appreciated since to most people, he's just "The Wu associate close to RZA". And I don't neccesary blame him for it, since I do feel the entire idea was RZA's idea, not his. He just wanted to make an album and get it known to the world. And I feel if RZA hadn't barged in with his "let's make it 88 years/sell one copy", his work would be better appreciated.

Honestly nobody really wins aside from RZA getting some attention.

I'm still curious about OUATIS, but I sure as hell am not going to keep checking PleasrDOA's twitter for the updates until I see the headline or post that says "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is released". Because for the past nine-ten years, it's been an endless tug of war of wanting to hear this album and that hope was dwindled thanks to the constant teases.

The idea that this hurt the Clan in any way is 100% flat out wrong and a true reflection why the Generals have such a hard time understanding their own marketing...

This project has made the Wu-Tang Clan brand folklore and legendary plus an unbelievable amount of free press.

The Clan continues to make music it's fans don't like, while Ringz made the album that we all wanted... we just may or may not be able to hear it in full in our lifetimes.

I personally don't fault Cilvaringz for coming up with this idea or going along with RZA on this. As we all know, he is barely an affiliate and RZA's boy, nothing more and nothing less. Who wouldn't want to be involved with something unique as this and be able to produce a whole album for the Wu-Tang Clan, even with copy paste or whatever the case may be. However, the whole process has been ugly, controversial and not up front with the guys involved. And I tend to believe RZA is more so the prick in all of this with the 88 years clause and trying to force this as some genius endeavor when it just has not been. The fact that he hasn't just been open about the selling process, the communication with the Wu guys and now silent while everyone is wondering what is happening shows that even more. I appreciate Cilva for at least trying to give us an insight on here, but even he is only open to a certain degree. Understandably so perhaps, but I'm just done with the secrecy and RZA's attitude in general. Now this does not mean I agree with Ghost, Rae and especially U-God as far as how RZA has done business and handled the Wu. But I do think the guy is feeling himself a bit too much and in the end he's just a producer, in the beginning a great one and later had his moments, and kind of a leader of the Clan. Nothing more, nothing less.

I doubt Wu could have done the last 2 tours properly without the story of this album. Just go back, and you would just have the story of the flop of A Better Tomorrow. Let us remember that Rae was COPY AND PASTED INTO THAT ALBUM. (Please stop with that narrative and go back and listen to Iron Flag and read how nobody knew where their verse would sometimes end up with RZA, GZA mailed in his verses for 8 Diagrams.) The last tour was built on the series, which was built on the Doc.

So you only have ABT, would they get the tour? Would they get the doc, the series? Would it all take off that big? Heck ABT probably damaged the brand more, as did all the bullshit that got released in the last 20 years, than OUATIS did. People are not checking new Wu, because they think it is wack.

OUATIS put the Clan back in the minds of people with a unique project that supposed to hark back to the beginnings. Any of those old heads would be excited for that, and would care less about the Meth or Ghost drama. If they were not such bitches in the media, they would have even benefited from it more. This right here is the reason I do not get the defense of OUATIS or the borderline vitriolic attitude that people have to others being disappointed with how OUATIS was released. Putting aside the whole "It's a copy/paste record" and such, It just feels like an insult that nobody will really hear it. It’s all good man you came clowning for no reason, I have not once shit on OUATIS musically one freaking time. I even defended the copy and paste saying if Rza made a wu album in 2024 it would essentially be done the same way. I never compared OUATIS to 36 or Forever Ringz did and as someone down from the jump it’s just not even remotely the same. There is a reason those 2 stand way above the rest and how they were made is not just a coincidence.

To be clear OUATIS has had zero impact on MY wu opinion. I am in too deep as a collector let alone a fan. That’s what I think your misunderstanding. To your average not current wu fan skrelli buying the last wu album (because who are we kidding it’s been a decade they are in their 50’s it ain’t happening) is an unnecessary stain on the logo.
