Why do so many black people love the incredibly racist Italian gangsters?

I've often wondered why so many black rappers (and a lot of black people in general) are so fixated with Italian gangsters and playing the Scarface connection, when they are the most racist people around, and have not a good word to say about black people.

Like in Sopranos for instance, they always talk about black people like their idiots they get in for shitty work. There's even a bit in (I think) Season 6 at the start when the rapper tries to talk to Tony in the hospital on the whole 'original G' flex and Tony just looks at him like a cunt.

I've heard the answer that it's cos of the whole 'the world is yours' get what you want type philosophy, but hell the Nazi's took what the fuck they wanted and were racist as fuck, but I aint met any rappers calling themself MC Goebbels.

True, any type of earupean/russian mafia is, usualy, racist towards blacks, and blacks usually look up to them. Ever see Boondock Saints? There's an example. If I remember correctly, one of the Godfather movies, but I'm not quite sure wether I'm actually thinking of Goodfellas instead, but ionno, I can remember the part, but not the movie that was incredibly racist towards blacks.

I don't know why ignorant blacks look up to italian gangsters either. They love the Scarface, GoodFellas, Carlito's Way, Godfather movies and even though i like those movies, being a criminal and admiring criminals is stupid. There was a scene in Spike Lee's She Hate Me movie when John Turturro was talking to Anthony Mackie and John asked Anthony how come rappers name themselves after italian gangstas when italians don't like blacks. I forgot what Anthony said to him.

First of all, pretty much everyone, including Latino, Asian and other gangs are racist toward blacks. But its not even about that....they are all prejudiced toward eachother.

Do you think Capone loved the Irish? Jews and Italians worked together because they made money. It all boils down to money. If the blacks can make money for you, they wont care if their black. I'm Italian and I've heard shit from everybody not Italian...wop, ginny, blah blah blah...doesnt faze me.

It is funny tho...it just shows you how confused some blacks are, but in my opinion, it isn't that deep....like any young people they loook up to gangsters cuz they think they are cool and it just so happens that the most popular ones in American History are mostly Italian and Jewish, and some Irish.

My question is this.....why do blacks care so much what different Europeans think of them?? I could give a fuck what the black community or people in Africa think of my Italian or American heritage.

whoa whoa....before you speak on something you know very little about, educate yourself. What happened in Europe between WW 1 and WW 2 had nothing to do with black/white as we see it in America......To call Italy a country full of white supremicists for siding with Germany is like calling hte Japanese the same...and that doesnt make sense. What happened over their had nothing to do with american racism. In fact, many GI's that fought in France during WW1 came home pissed cuz they were treated better in Europe than in their own country.

Some of these rappers [and some drug dealers, gang affiliated cats] usually give themselves the names of the most reknown gangsters like Luciano, Capone, Lensky, etc. I don't know if they're idolizing the person or if it's more about adopting the name in emulation of the respect they garnered in their time.

Movies are certainly a big part of the reason, but those movies actually reflected what was going in the real world where people have known of legitimate gangsters [in general], and of the Italian mafia for close to a 100 years. [especially in the major east coast cities]

It seems that the direction of the thread is going to, " "Why do so many rappers love the incredibly racist Italian gangster movies?"

I guess for inspiration, it has been mentioned that many of those entertainers have little formal education and most of what they learned came from the streets...similar to other gangsters (in movies) who made a ton of money by using their street knowledge in business.

Do many "non-rapper" black people praise these films? Perhaps they enjoy the entertainment value as much as others.

On the other hand, how much information about mobsters do most people learn just by watching those movies? Most people never even see them in real life.....a similar concept SUNNY WINTERS tried to prove by who sees crackheads and who doesn't.

Why black people like them even though they are all (supposedly) racist? One could say some white people listen to racist/racial prejudice rappers for a parallel case. Perhaps racial character interests some of us but this hypothesis could make a discussion thread itself.
