Why the hate for the W??

i havent bumped The W in ages and the past couple days i was gettin blunted wit my buddies and just decided to listen to the w and serious i dont see why people i dont like this album or the direction rza went with it.

carefull (click,click) this song got me into the Wu, 4th song i ever heard by the wu after triumph, cream and da mystery. this song is just BAM punch u in ur face crazy ass beat

then i went to i cant go to sleep and this song is so fucken nice, the beat is out of this world and i wud be here for days if i had to describe the other songs

all im sayen is the W is an ill album with great beats and i think its a classic to me cuz alot of those songs go way back wen i first got into the wu and they changed my mind about music.

i hated it at first but i love that shit now..(similar to how i felt with 8D)



the album as a whole is fuckin wild...so much crazy shit like songs coming in at the end of songs and alotta beats that seem more, to me, "experimental" than the beats on 8 Diagrams....think Careful, The Monument, Let my Niggas Live plus they got two similar, almost-psychotic emotional street hymns like Can't go to Sleep and Jah World (there's nothing on 8 Diagrams that comes close to the experimental-ness of Rza's cannon blasts goin throughout Jah World's beat)...

definitely a great album, i don't think anyone hates it, it's just a letdown after the first 2

The W is an amazing album. The way Rza put that album together from beginning to end is virtually perfect. If I heard the songs in isolation I wouldn't have thought I would like them as much as I do after actually having the cd in that format.

8 diagrams is better then the W IMO


the W is still a good album... a few weak tracks, but also crazyy tracks

The W > Iron Flag and 8 Diagrams I agree

8 D, The W and IF are nowadays more of a tie for me, cuz all three are a 4/5...

i think rza made a mistake of putting "Do you really" after "i can't go to sleep."

can't go to sleep is such a slow deep song about social issues of the street, then to start the next song with an up-tempo beat with meth saying "i heard you niggas like to bang bang" was a poor choice of arrangement

this album is great but i'm not sure it's better than 8diagrams
i can't choose which one is better.
anyways the W has dope beats and pure bangas

I love that album. Better than 8D and IF

I know what you mean. I would have put it a different way.

The albums def' a banga but it doesnt come together like the previous... Not got the same vibe.. bit like 8D... Shouldve been a 2 disc album.

imo, there has been a steady decline since forever. tho the biggest drop is following iron flag.

The ppl on here are psychos, the W was a good album. The olny disappointing Album was Iron Flag

Ghost was just coming off Supreme Clientele so the nigga was still on fire ! Raekwon still had that hypeness in his voice , Masta Killa was spittin that old street hebrew on tracks plus Nas was on the comeback trail with his verse ! JAH WORLD is on some deep shit. one of my favorite tracks. ghost makes the song cry, and your right those two tracks are almost identical...using only ghost and rza as mc's if i remember right.

yea man, Cant Goto Sleep is one of the all-time great Wu tracks. And with Jah World, I can put that track, or the instrumental version on and zone the fuck out when im high

RZA's production on "The W" gets it halfway to classic status, beats are unexpected, hard, funny and grimey at the same time. It seems RZA tried to take the different concept-sounds of the early albums ("Enter"-"Ironman") and mix them and change/update em a bit.

The downside to the album is unfortantly the lyrical part from the generals, to me many of them sounds lazy. Trie listening to some shit from Forever and then The W and you'll notice a huge difference in effort they put in when writing the lyrics. If you ask me the only one who really brought it was GZA/Genius, Ghostface and RZA (not saying the others were wack by any means but they just don't sound that inspired).

That's the biggest reason why I personally like 8 Diagrams better, since both production and lyrics was on point. Still I would rate The W slightly over 4/5

8 Diagrams is better than The W and Iron Flag. Better lyrics, better beats, better chemistry.

beatwise its my favorite clan album but lyrically it just doesnt stack up.

raekwon, method man, Gza, and deck bring it, the other members were decent to forgettable.
