Production's 10 for me but lyrically it isn't as good in my opinion so I gotta give it a 9.
a 10 for me, one of my all time favourites, post up a track list too
8/10 I thought it was pretty good but I havent listened to it that much.
The album is timeless even a century from now it will still be bangin' a true reflection of the hiphop culture.
Just fantastic album. El-P production at his peak, along with Fantastic Damage that is almost a sequal to this.
And the lyrics from vast aire are on another level. 10 from me.
when you listen to at more and more, it really hits inQuote:

We need another album like this el-p/ox. The production fits the benefit on this whole album; the battle for asguard is an 11/10 every lyricist and of course the percusion isnt short. scream pheonix, painkillers always hits;ridiculoid mmm tight... these cats (ox & producto) need to shit or get off the toilet son
10 all time classic as ^^ said we need mor like this
I havent even heard of it?
When was it released and what's its style?
9/10, could've had iller lyrics.
beats are timeless
It is very abstract hip hop. Some people compare it to 93 wu, I guess because it does sound gutter but don't expect any kung fu samples. They got a lot of metaphors and Vast Aire has a very laid back flow but still its a great album, you gotta listen to it more than once to appreciate it, just loop it on random in the background and its tight. El-P's beats have a lot of depth and richness to it, definitely sounds like some basement type stuff.
I liked raspberry fields, Straight off the DIC, Ridiculoid(nice twist on the salt and peppa chorus!), ox out of the cage, painkillers, real earth, battle for asgard(makes you want to fight someone), pigeon, and some of the others. For the most part the LP is solid but again you have to listen to it more than once to appreciate it. Its beatiful. It was released in 2003 I believe.
BTW noone mentioned this hear yet, but Cannibal OX recently inked a deal with Def JUX for another LP(or LPs) for 2006 with EL-P doing ALL the production once again! It will come out after EL-P finishes his sophmore album.
For Some Reason I Hate Fantastic Damage

Yo the theme was dope, vordul n vast aire ,tru classic
''Imma stay blazin mics till i fade of the surface and return to ma nature''
Megala
jus' bringin' it back, 10/10..
albums the essence.
pea2e
10/10
Classic production... Vast Aire comes INCREDIBLE... Seriously, jaw-dropping...
"she was in a love triangle
but it wasn't like my feelings weren't there to make it a square"
"you think you can fit me in that anorexic space between love and hate?
I got all of the first one and none of the other"
"My mother said "you sucked my pussy when you came out
Don't ever talk back
I handled your life and I'll snatch it back""
Vordul ain't as good as Vast though... I mean, yeah, he comes pretty dope at times, but overall his style doesn't fit the production as well as Vast's, and he just usually gets outshined... But far from enough to bring this album down to a 9, 'cus he's still a good rapper.
in my eyes the production on this album is the best. some of the illest beats i ever heard are all over this one. Vast and Vordull kill ever verse. 10/10, 5/5. whatever. top 20 album for me.
"Cats walk around New York with two fillin's
One is in their mouth the other, does the killin'"
EDIT: Also, i love how Vast and Vordull have two totally different style. Vast comes with his laid back flow and Vordull just plain attacks tracks with his complex and abstract flows. hip hop doesnt get any better than this.
El-P's production - 10/10
Vast Aire's verses - 10/10
Vordull's verses - 10/10
I think it's a 10/10. El-P's production is amazing and Vordul Mega rips it. Vast Aire handles his own.
Wow, I'd have said they were both amazing but if pushed to decide I would have put Vast's performance ahead of Vordul's!
"You were a still born baby. Momma didn't want you but you were still born."
I've got the instrumentals on vinyl, and it's a crazy album to listen to even without the lyrics.
Classic
Dope ass album. Vast aire comes poetic and el-p production makes me feel as if I am in the future and robots just took over the planet. 10/10
vast got the classic quotables but i thought vordul had nastier verses overall imo. beats are crazy. never heard a rap album sound like that before, prolly wont for a long time.
it's in my top10 hiphop albums of all time
Classic in all aspects... 10/10
it's Cannibal Ox tho, not Canibal
dude i slept so hard on this you could call it hibernating. i only discovered it through the mighty joseph album. i wanted to check out some more of the stuff dudes in there had did and they said one of the dudes was in can ox.
i've known of can ox for a minute but idk if it was the name or what but i never gave them a listen.
i co-sign about 90% of this thread though. 10/10 phenomenal stuff. beats are off the chain, and the lyrics are fire.
"On Prison's intentions, get diesel, read a book
Find god in a cell block, that's your fate
I'm that voice in the back of LL's head saying
"You gonna let a weed plant do that?" yeah, I like to instigate"
defiantly recommend that mighty joeseph album though to anyone and everyone feeling can ox.
^^^^get the can ox mixtape, it's named 'Speakeroxxx // The Ox Below' I think, or something like that
u gotta hear the song with Jean Grae, or the Angels and Insects <3
A dope and classic underground Hip Hop album, Vast and Vordul were astounding, the production was incredible, I hope (though I highly doubt it) that we get another Cannibal Ox album with El-P production.
Wera, have you got that Angels and Insects...I have been looking for that for ages.
yeah I wouldn't mind you uploading those 2 tracks you mentioned either.. I haven't really heard much from Cann O besides this album (which I bumped like crazy for years though) so that would be appreciated. did y'all hear the joint they did with Pete Rock early this year - "Mecca & The OX", pretty ill.
^^ i know you posted that a long-ass time ago but yeah haha mecca and the ox is ill. its awesome how pete rock adjusted his style to mimic an el-p beat. just to give us a cold vein type feel
10/10
i didnt even like it at first but every song slowly got better and better. i prefer vordul's verses over vast aire's but they both come amazing. one of the best albums i've heard, in terms of quality and cohesion. el-p's said that this is the best production he's ever done and i have to agree
Been relistening to this in the wake of EL-P droppin 2 classics in a month.
Man... it still blows my head off. the weird sounds and sinister rhymes stay in my mind. Put this in my top 5 albums, one of very few challengers to SC crown. El-P says Can O will probably never reunite. such a shame. Vast Aire does decent solo albums but sometimes the production lets him down. If El-P could produce a Vast Aire solo with a few vordul features that would work since mega seems to be the lazy one.
