I agree to some extent but I also think you're not really being fair in your definition of versatile. How far back do you want to zoom out? If you boil it down enough, all jay-z raps about is his money; getting it, managing it, spending it, killing people over it, etc etc.
Rae is famous for his coke raps, and has built a career spanning multiple decades out of it, and I would agree he is the least versatile general, but to me, rap is about HOW you say it, not WHAT you say. At the end of the day, all Wu-Tang talked about for 5 years, between all of their albums was sex, drugs, murder, and radical islam. Its HOW they talked about them that made them famous.
And Ghost is versatile, no matter how you define it. Guy can do coke rap, tell any kind of story, abstract free-verse, and legitimate ballads.
