This summer, the Natural History Museum's (NHM) collection of dinosaur bones, habitat dioramas and taxidermy will be joined by decades-old New Wave band Devo and founding Wu-Tang Clan member, GZA/The Genius.
The Los Angeles museum celebrates its 100th birthday with an indoor/outdoor bash that includes the debut of a new, more than three-acre Nature Gardens and outdoor learning lab. The "day-to-night" celebration on Sunday, June 9 will also feature behind-the-scenes tours, discussions and live performances.
Starting at 10 a.m., attendees can watch cooking demonstrations, participate in perfume workshops and become better versed in gardening. At 6:30 pm., NASA engineer Adam Steltzner, who works for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will lead a discussion about the Mars Curiosity Rover and beginning at 5 p.m., DJs will begin leading up to the main event: GZA followed by DEVO.
GZA is no stranger to the science scene. According to his bio via the NHM, he's had a "longtime fascination with the cosmos" and spent recent years visiting with with marine biologists and quantum physicists to gain inspiration for his upcoming project "Dark Matter."
"I will take a quantum leap and discuss the universe while taking us on a journey through deep space," said GZA of the project. "Traveling at lightspeed from the galactic center of one galaxy to the farthest corners of another. I hope my listeners will enjoy this cosmic adventure within a world of colossal planets, gas giants, meteorites, comets, and asteroids in the most extreme conditions."
PBS Newshour reports that GZA is also currently working with New York City public schools to use hip-hop to teach science.
And while Devo may not be as publicly immersed in biology and physics as GZA is, the band has a longstanding history of being scientists in their own right through experimenting with technology and electronics (and of course, wacky costumes).
Tickets to NHM's 100th birthday bash go on sale May 3 on the museum's website. A daytime ticket costs $12, the same as museum admission; tickets to the evening events including Devo and GZA cost $25. Members can enter for free.
For Wu-Tang fans living on the Eastcoast (near OTT Canada....)
Not sure if this was posted at all before.....
Wu-Tang is playing JUL 7, 2013 in Ottawa, ON Canada for Bluesfest.
The entire lineup is supposed to be there; outdoor concert, general admin. etc.
Not "super" far for those living in NY, PHI, DET, etc. AT least I don't think so....
Figured if you've never seen them live, here's a chance of a lifetime....I'm taking advantage.
Again JUL 7, 2013.

Also Everlast is playing the same day....the rest of the lineup I'm not a big fan of, but Everlast is pretty dope.
