I read today that Tony Bennett's wife let the world know Tony's had Alzheimer's for four years now. He's 94. I put him in my 2021 Death List but actually I hope he LIVES ON LIVES STRONG. I have a shitload of his albums (some of them are more experimental than you'd expect) which I listen to once in a while. Tony and Mel Tormé (remember him?) have some of the smoothest voices in crooning imho, along with Sinatra of course. They're my 3 favorites when it comes to male crooners. Tony's voice has remained golden over the years, unlike Tormé's (bye bye high notes) and, to a much lesser extent, Sinatra.
Tony still recognizes people but has increasingly been astonished by such things as keys (what are they for) and the like. sad sad news
btw on the subject of crooning, I think Dean Martin could have had a much bigger musical legacy if he'd taken his singing (I mean the album format and the right producers) more seriously but I'm talking myself out of this thread right now lol
Rest well Captain Sir Tom Moore.
RIP to Hal Holbrook
