Thread: "All Star Superman"

    Default "All Star Superman"

Is the music from "Dark Knight"? Sounds like some Hans Zimmer stuff, or at least a knockoff.

    Anyway...

I don't know. The comic is a modern classic. If you haven't read, do it twice. Morrison and Quitely made the definitive Superman epic. Hopefully some of the epic badassery, quirky science, silver age insanity, and emotionally involving stuff makes it into the movie and it's not more mindless fight-porn.

Also, they didn't even try to adapt Frank Quitely's art style, which is disappointing as I think his designs are perfect for translating to higher end (more detailed, more expensive) animation.

Film looks good but the comic had horrible art that made superman look fat. Im sure the comic is great but that artwork is off.

^i was going to rant about quitely's artistic merit, especially compared to people who tend to employ more conventional styles, but i'm not trying to be a condescending asshole on a message board. anymore.

fair enough that you don't like his style, but he's far from horrible. pick up anything he's drawn and you'll see a high level of craft and detail as well as visual storytelling that most comic artists can't even attempt.

Looking at those panels, I just don't like the way he's drawn superman. This in my opinion is how he should look in the comics

or even the work from Jim Lee

I just prefer the more built look.

^what's funny is that originally i was going to post 'you sound like one of those guys that needs all their superhero art to look like jim lee or michael turner' but thought it sounded too asshole-ish.

i like them all, but quitely's in an elite class imo.

different strokes and all that...that's probably why they didn't adapt his style as directly as they did michael turner's or ed mcguiness' on 'public enemies'...because it's not as marketable and is 'off-model'.

I like a variety of styles in my comics, im just refering to the look of superman specifically. Quietly can draw, im not saying he can't, I just don't like his interpretation of superman.

And another thing, just what is wrong in being a fan of M Turner and Jim Lee's work? They are both highly regarded artists (rip M Turner) who have an awesome body of work.

^nothing's wrong with their work or being a fan of their work (i've been a jim lee fanatic since i was in 2nd grade and he was drawing 'uncanny x-men')...i just thought of them because their styles are an elite example of conventional modern superhero art. i've just had arguments with people that only like that type of style and think quitely, paul pope, tim sale and shit are 'ugly'.

lex luthor's voice is shit...it sounds like ed asner; i wish clancy brown was still doing the voice, dude was perfect.

guess the reason i like quitelys superman is because i fucking hate superman..eloels, so i think a fresh interpretation of him is refreshing (im not buying earth one, though...eloels)

^superman rules, the concept has limitless potential (earth one does look lame, though)
and i just realized that jim lee picture is a homage to 'superman' #1

Gotta say that I was a Jim Lee fan before I knew who the fuck Jim Lee was. When I was about 13 I had this pic as a poster on my wall

This was the X-men comic world I was introduced to and imo it's still the best.

damn i feel old, i was in HS when lee started on Xmen. lee raised the bar when he did xmen but i think silvestri did it best. i think my vision of the team will always be silvestri. the inferno, fall of the mutants, and the brood stories was more my X era.

    art adams was dope too.
i had this poster on my wall from middle school thru college. i have no idea what happened to it. its a shame cause it took me 30 mins to find this pic on the web.

you know who had some dope art back in the day but now sucks ? jae lee. he should have stuck with the over inked wildstyle shit he was doing at image.

JRJ had a unique style too. just as unique as mcfarland was back in the day. i loved JRJ's work with the cable series

macfarlands spidey is still to this day my fav. his webbing was incredible.

    mcfarlands hulk was dope too.

    oh yeah...
looking for that xmen poster i found this epic image.
