Was the kid really thrown? It's hard to tell when the action takes place in the dark and is seen from the front.
His leg gets extended, but that's not the action of a ghost; that's what legs could do.
Maybe counselling the boy over the death of his friend may help.

There is always a logical explanation.
Could be a reflexive act in conjunction with a vivid imagination brought about after the death of his friend.
