i downloaded nero wave editor. or if u have fruity loops (which is sorta whack) u can slice a sample in the beat slicer. it works pretty well.

FL Studio is definitely up there as a top beatmaking/producing package.

The slicer is amazing and everythign else about it.

Nero is good too...Soundforge is probably by far the easiest to record, cut and edit wavs.

Do you know what this cable is actually called? I've been trying to get one but dont know what it is actually called.

It will probably be a 'phono to mini-jack' or I think maybe 'rca to mini-jack' if you are in the US, it all depends on what connections your soundcard and DVD player have tho'.

One combo (software wise) that will definately work (assuming your on a PC) is Steinberg's 'Wavelab' and Propellerheads 'Reason'.
Wavelab is just an audio editor that you can record to directly, then chop up the sounds you want, and Reason has the NN-19 or NN-XT samplers that you can load the chopped up samples into to trigger in your sequencer.
Theres literally a multitude of options to acheive this tho', it's all down to personal preference really.
