Only a few years ago Hip Hop purists may have felt superior listening to hard core while their less enlightened companions snacked on commercial rap. As Shaolin research began to point out the overwhelming benefits of raw production, true hip hop enthusiasts started turning back to traditional styles. Wu-Tang in particular, has been shown to myriad beneficial effects, from warding off ignorance and poverty to reducing the risk of incarceration and death.
I know you're just complimenting the album but let's be real here, SvW does not sound like unreleased 90's wu, it sounds like 2011 wu as it should have evolved into and not the bullshit Rza tried to force feed us with 8 Diagrams.
This is a modern album Hollow, a modern wu sounding album.
"I pledge allegiance to the hip hop"Method Man
it'll be fun to actually go to a regular store like Best Buy the day it drops and KNOW they'll have it.....
unlike 95% of the other Wu-related releases these days...
true..lemme rephrase..its rugged, kung fu, gutter wu tang music that couldve come out in 97-99 and held its own...maybe i'm hypin it but this shit is the best wu related lp since no said date to me..i think NSD is a classic album..i still bump every song on there easily. i can't say the same about anything else thats come out since then...shit i even like rock n roll...i said it

Wow this shit is a banger!!!!!
Shaolin Vs. Wu Tang >>>>OBCL2
"Rap has gradually degenerated from an art form into a ring tone"
"We got the tape Nigga"- Raekwon live in Toronto
Even knowing that the Nas track was re-used, it still dope!
The Master Of Our Fate contains some Winston Churchill quotes on it
My favorites right now:
Butter Knives
Rich & Black
Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang
Silver Rings
The Scroll
Cho Chop Ninja
The Master Of Our Fate
Snake Pond
The final part of Rich & Black could be a hot joint too with some dope rhymes over it.
the cool thing about this album is that Raekwon mixed the classic Wu Tang sound with modern sounds....he found the right mix.
I like pretty much every song on this album. I can't even hate that much on "Rock N' Roll"
I liked OBCL2, but I think Svs.W is a better album
favorite tracks:
"Butter knives"
"Chop Chop Ninja"
"Molasses"
"Silver Rings"
'Rich and Black"
"Snake Pond"
....all the other tracks are pretty dope as well, very consistent
"Rap has gradually degenerated from an art form into a ring tone"
"We got the tape Nigga"- Raekwon live in Toronto
Joe Budden lost again....

This album is a meld of the Kung Fu sound and the Spaghetti western sound RZA pioneered back in the early 00's. It definitely has a western, man against man, fight to the death kinda vibe going.
Unlike most of you, I find Silver Rings to be extremely repetitive and obnoxious. I think it's the worst track on the album.
Certified immediate classics
Butter Knives
Snake Pond
Rich and Black
Masters of Our fate
Last Trip to Scotland
There are too many movie samples, it's overdone.
The mastering is awful especially on Wu Chant, The transitions of the volume on songs are sporadic.
Overall it's a pretty good album on first listens, but it definitely has it's problem areas. Not a problem are the song lengths, with the exception of Rock N Roll. The swiftness of the tracks gives it the potential for excellent replay value. Raekwon is very good lyrically, but he is starting to become a rapper who simply repeats the things he has already said before, but in a different order. He still can't hold a candle to Ghostface. No way no how. Is it better than CL2? Probably not. It's become popular to dis that modern classic, for no good reason.
Maybe it will grow on me more, expect a review in about a week.
