early in my productions someone told me to picture a beat visually and try to have sounds spread out, with some room in the middle for vocals. i dont think its necessarily always gonna stick to that formula but it helped me

ya, i have had that explained to me in the same fashion. when i get beats to rhyme on i make sure the producer left room in the centre for the vocals, or else shit becomes a mess to mix. and i agree about the snare and hi hat. i just did some work on the layering of the drums and samples

In a way a lot better. The drum pattern feels better, has more groove, the drums don't sound too good though. Also you got some effects going on and I hate effects.

I don't know exactly what sound you're going for, but if I were you I'd start of with some simple boom-bap drumming, EQ and compress till the drums sound good when you solo just the drums.
Then start with your sample game. Use one song only for your sample, and listen to what you like about it. Find a dope loop, put it over your boom bap drums and bam you got a beat.
From there on, just add stuff, make some variations, mute the drums here and there to accentuate the sample. You know, keep it simple.

thanks Jasper, what effects dont you like? on the drums i only had some verb on the snare, and a low pass filter on a layer of the kicks. oh and compression, dont think i used any other effects that whole beat.

the drums r nice on this....i like da syncopated simple hi hat pattern keep it simple now and keep flipping em..thats pretty good its inspiring to see some1 get better at this

You have the sample mixed in there nicely. a little repetitive however you spell it lol but this is really chill. you seem to have the knack and learn quickly when it comes to making beats. beef up those drumes no doubt...keep banging.
