Wu-Tang Is The Indie Culture!

there was a review of Wu-tang meets the indie culture that was posted on this forum in which a very good point was made. that point was: "wu-tang shaped the indie culture". and i agree a 100%.

by calling the album wu-tang meets the indie culture Dreddy K. is implying that wu-tang was never underground and that he's trying to hook sum'thin up between the wu and the underground.

which is false. because wu-tang greatly influenced underground hip hop, both in styles of rhyming and production. not to take away from the other guys out there, but that off-key production where the beat sounds all messed up is a creation of wu-tang. if not his creation , he perfected it.

besides if these are not indie/underground i dont kno what is: 36 chambers, cuban linx, liquid swords, tical, ironman, the pillage, forever, the swarm, the sting, in stereo, immobolarity, 718, supreme clientele,,,,,...........

listen to forever, taht album went platinum not because of pop production or numbing down lyrics, cuban linx went gold/platinum over a number of years, now that's a classic way to go gold/platinum. to know tahat people are buying ur record five six seven years down the line just from word of mouth

the thing is wu-tang has been able to have commercial success despite their witty unpredictable talent and natural game (get it : w.u.t.a.n.g.) while others couldn't. and having come out in 93' a time when that kinda music was appreciated didn't hurt.

wu-tang are not indie artists. wu-tang has sold some 20 millions records. they are a commercial group that has lost its mojo and have been forced to go indie. they have an underground sound but these guys were at one point as commercially viable as puffy, pac or snoop dogg.

Gza and u-god are part a hiphop groups that has sold some 5 million records and Gza's first two albums went gold so neither of them are underground.
