what's this thread about? that the 90's were better than current hip hop? i cant wait for your next thread "breathing is important".
don't know sunny what was it like being around for all the social and musical trends of the 20th century?
i ain't all that old - but i most likely was making beats and writing rhymes way before RZA and GZA thought about doing it - and they are older than me - i have a thorough history of this shit - True Hip Hop heads who want answers need to ask questions - those who don't care can keep it movin
i don't think that the 90's was better - Hip Hop is better and stronger today than it was yesterday - people just get lost in the variety
don't know what the motivation behind this is, but i hope the three of yall didn't take time out of yall precious schedule to complain about my thread - lol - i'm looking for valuable questions to be asked - i started my artistry in the late 70's
Check out these documentaries SUNNY, real people from the hood discussing what went on in the early 90's and tell various stories that inspired Hip Hop songs. It's interesting to learn things from them about my neighborhood of Harlem which I wasn't aware of before.
Article about the stampede of 1992 at City College with Heavy D and Puffy, I used to live next to the school: http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...pg=2936,530701

from 86 to 89 was even iLLer to me - the 90's brought a darkness to Hip Hop - it got tougher - before that, Hip Hop was Fun,informative, and the MC's were out to drop jewels and teach lessons mostly there was always a moral to story
Onyx and Mobb Deep really changed the tone - and people who were rolling dice in the lunchrooms, selling cracks, and playin ball decided to become MCs all of a sudden even more so -
there is allot of garbage out today - there was allot of garbage out back then too - now today, you have even more garbage and even more good shit out - it's easier to spot the garbage - as time passed, groups made it easier for regular for mediocre art to be accepted -
I'll take the dark, moody, bleak hip-hop over the fun fun fun any day. and there were more than enough lessons and jewels being dropped in the 90s, which I'm sure was the pinnacle of the Five Percent teachings. there were more Five Percenters then than any other decade, at least notable ones
understood -
it became demonic and was the beginning of a serious war to control Hip Hop
it became more of a Style to drop jewels for some who couldn't care less - everyone wanted to be able to use the 5% lingo - and this made shit corny and unauthentic
- in NY, it was the culture - having KOS was the culture - but saying fuck that, i'm on some worldy shit became the style in the 90's - saying i got knowledge of self but i'll fuck your wife became the in thing
