The Purple Tape
Meant more along the lines of albums that don't get the critical acclaim they deserve, not ones which are almost universally considered one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time but fair enough that album is incredible.

'Being an effective God is invincible.' -- Gza
'Niggaz wanna rap, and rap, and rap, and rap, and rap, maaaaaaaan fuck that' -- Young Dirty
'He got the power to heal the blind...the first lesson I was taught, is to stop eating swine' -- 9th Prince
The original Bobby Digital album was put down due to people disliking RZA's departure from his fan favorite classic RZA formula. Both production and lyrical style. He had lots of anticipation from Wu heads for his solo album and many were dissapointed it wasn't the promised Cure. Listen to that album today and it's marvelous. However, I'm sure most of you already know that.
The brutal offspring of Conan and Red Sonja.
4:21...
DEF JAM dropped the ball on that one...big time....
mef did everything expected of a "major label artist" at that time and made smash hit radio records they FAILED to market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats probably still the most complete rap album ive heard delievered by a major since...
really showed DEF JAMS incompetence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you can tell mef complied with the labels demands of delivering "radio records" and they didnt do shit with them... so when you hear the record now, you think those are the weak spots, when in actuality those were the fluff records the label was looking for... shit had like 16 songs... so he gave the fans everythign they coulda wanted plus came through with the commercial stabs that got him nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love that album... mef was killing shit....
BLACKOUT! 2 is mad underrated too... no solo but that album is crazy... def jam fucked that one up too.... if you been around the block def scam will not put ANYTHING behind you.. theyre busy putting all their resources behind their created artists like rick ross making PENNIES off the work... rick ross is tying up all the money and not even performing like that on the charts... shit is crazy... def jam is a sunken ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
golden arms redemption
u-god blacked out over this entire album. "the night the city cried" is one of the most vivid stories ever spit.
Christianity = White Supremacy
The Movement and Immobilarity.

Ghostdini - The Wizard of Poetry
"We accept tires" - Cappadonna
apollo kids.
i dont know why that album gets written off.
for real, its hardcore as fuck and ghost spit his ass off on it.
^ yes re Apollo kids. For me his best since Supreme - some hard hard shit. Good shout too re MiB though someone involved in that lp needs sacking as it was really disjointed.
Does Digital Bullet count? Seems a divisive one. I personally like it a lot.
Digital Bullet and Birth of a Prince are both real dope.
Apollo Kids deserves no flack, especially since it came out of nowhere.

Like the Apollo Kids noted above, but No Said Date could have used a couple more videos and airplay.
