RZA BREAKS INTO THE FILM WORLD
After appearing in the recently released movie Derailed, a big budget film which stars Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen, the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA has taken quite an interest in the film arena. He has just finished penning his first script for a movie that, according to the RZA, will go into production in February of next year. The film is entitled The Man With The Iron Fist.
For Derailed, RZA took the acting craft seriously, even hiring an acting coach. “I took acting classes and I read books on how to do the things that [actors] do,” RZA told BET.com. “This is the first time that I’m playing a serious role. And this proves if I could act or not. Apparently, everybody is sayin’ that RZA did well.”
Prior to this film, RZA appeared in the films, Scary Movie 3 and Ghostdog, with Forest Whittaker. Though he has not abandoned his career in music (he is currently going hard with the Cuban Linx II album), he has decided to actively pursue other movie roles. As for Samuel Jackson’s comments on rapper-turned-actors, RZA feels he should be given the chance to prove himself. “I understand where [the actors] are coming from because there is a very small community of black actors, but [Samuel Jackson] should realize that the hip-hop community is a big fan of his and him condemning it is not a good look. We artists can do many things, whether it’s acting, scoring, designing clothes. We could write a whole movie in sixteen bars.”
The soundtrack to the movie Derailed is being released on RZA’s 36 Chambers label.
