Default New Orleans Hornets are expected to become Pelicans as early as 2013-14 season

Charlotte can get their name back if they ever get another team

One of Louisiana's state nicknames is the Pelican State, while the state bird is the brown pelican

The Hornets have registered five trademarks for their possible new name:

    New Orleans Pelicans

    New Orleans Rougarou

    New Orleans Mosquitos

    New Orleans Swamp Dogs

    New Orleans Bullsharks

looks like this might actually happen cuz the NBA likes to fukin confuse the fans with this BS like when OKC got a team and they decided to name it Thunder, even though the GS Warriors Mascot had that name, then it just disappeared...lol

Default Potential New Names for the Redskins

In light of the US Patent and Trademark Office canceling the Washington Redskins trademark registration, ruling that the name is "disparaging to Native Americans" this could eventually be a death knell for the most blatantly racist nickname in professional sports. Losing trademark status, however, means losing federal protection against bootleggers, so anyone will be allowed to sell Redskins merch without any consequence which will make the brand name irrelevant, worthless & non-profitable.

And as momentum builds for a new name, ideas are being tossed around. Naturally, many of them are comical (see: Twitter hashtag "newredskinsname"), but some are legit.

    For example...

Senators: The political connection is obvious, but there's a deep history there, too. This would work as a nod to the former D.C.-based MLB teams that now play in Minnesota and Texas, and it was also the name of the Washington NFL team in 1921.

    Federals: Capitals, Nationals and Federals.

Skins: It's possible simply removing the "Red" part of the name won't satisfy those who oppose it, but it would be an easy fix considering that most of us already refer to the team this way.

The Warriors looks alright, if Golden St. didn't already have that name.
