I was reading about this movie and Lars Von Trier a few days ago. I watched Melancholia which I think is supposed to be one of his better films. I thought it was pretty good but I think I need to rewatch it.

Hows this one? The director has a reputation as a provocateur.

this is one of those well done, well written and most IMPORTANTLY, well casted movies that do not only delve into hard subject matter but also doe's kinda leaves you fascinated with the minds of serial killers. Matt dilon was born to play a misunderstood weirdo killer, i mean he totally kills it,

    UNFORTUNATELY

this is one those movies that is fascinating and keeps you watching until the end, basically the last 15 minutes of the movie robbed this movie of becoming the perfect serial killer tale, it was just unneccesary and ruined the realsm of the movie which was its strongest point, but id still recommend it if you enjoy artsy violence and cerebral understanding of said violence like i do. AS long as u ignore the ending, its a great film IMO

^ I want to watch it even though I've read its pretty brutal. All I can think of when I see Matt Dillon is his character in Something About Mary lol.

It sucks when a movie yanks the rug out before the end. The film 'Hereditary' is fantastic up until 1 hour in, when they start filling it with silly horror cliches. Still a good movie though.

Just watched it. I disagree about the ending. I thought the movie was more of a philosophical debate on art and humanity so the closing 15 minutes were a great way to end it. Very smart and compelling movie.

It definitely gets into the mind of this serial killer. Thats definitely not an easy watch in places though. It probably goes further than most movies on the subject.

i see what you mean, i guess i just wanted the realism of the whole thing to be the only theme of the movie, it is a great movie though, and so well shot

Just watched it now. Claire Foy was brilliant in it and I loved that it kept you guessing until the end. Also funny to see Jay Pharoah and fatass Bob Kelly in it.

Check out: Beyond The Black Rainbow (2010)

Just watched it and this is a hypnotic film. Its a psychedelic movie about a disturbed scientist at an experimental drug company. The visual style is pure '70s dystopia, but its set in the '80s and the soundtrack is more the latter.

Its crazy that a Sci-Fi so vivid and unique ends up being obscure and unheard of just 9 years later.
