as for antichrist. im on the fence about giving it a go. Dafoe is a tremendous very talented actor as he was phenomenal in The Lighthouse. but i really just get this pretentious vibe from Lars Von Trier films idk why. that is what is holding me back. i watched Melencholia because i like Kirsten Dunst and i thought it was all right but just the whole time im like... damn this is a bit like very pretentious.

i have been seeing a lot of people mention antichrist though. maybe its time i do watch it.

i watched antichrist, and i wasnt impressed in the slightest.

he made Dafoe look like a little boy with his blue little t shirt and bangs. Charlotte Gainsbourg or whatever was great, she usually is in the movies i have watched of his with her in them.

but my god, it was not shocking or brutal or controversial at all to this viewer.

i think i understand that Lars von Trier tries to do that with his films, push some sort of shock value or controversy to sell them or whatever. totally not a fan. the beginning of the film was just gay slow motion with dramatic music and sex and a death.

i went in there with a clear mind, no hatred at all.

i stand by me calling him pretentious after viewing this film. i dont know much about the guy as i really dont care about him all too much and would rather let someones work speak for itself and then i will start to dig into the man behind the films. but he really hasnt garnered my attention yet. i think i have watched 4 or 5 of his films already.

i do however want to watch that little tv series or whatever he did entitled The Kingdom. im having a very hard time tracking that down, even a stream of it.

'Freaks' (2018). Best not read up on the movie or watch the trailer, for full enjoyment of the first half of the movie.

There's a very good kid actor in the movie.

'Midsommar' was leagues beyond 'Hereditary', director' Ari Aster's previous movie'. Saw 'Hereditary' in the cinema and was unimpressed with the finale. Good build up though. 'Midsommar' delivers all the way through. Just watching it for the folklore alone is worth it. But I'm guessing I'm one of the last people here to watch this one, the movie's been out for two years now.

Good plot and atmosphere for a scifi that deals with the process of mourning

I thought Midsommar was good, my type of horror movie. I just watched Wicker Man for the first time the other day. 1973 version. A lot of similarities between the two, in a good way.

Ari Aster said his next film will be 4 hours long. I'm up for that.

Btw which version did you guys see of Midsommar? The extended cut is 2hrs 50 mins.
