Default Killer Mike's Monster ten year anniversary.

Dungeon Family member Killer Mike dropped Monster a decade ago today. What are your thoughts on it now compared to then? I feel pretty much the same about it now as I did back then. Exquisite album that had absolutely no marketing and promotion whatsoever. I felt as though this joint could have gone gold if it had been handled properly. He had articulate, well thought out lyrics and subwoofer shattering production. I find it akin to Ras Kass' Soul On Ice for the young generation. That album is slowly but surely being recognized as time passes and I feel as though this will do the same. Monster deserves to acquire its props as an overlooked gem. The socio-political content dredges up memories of another album that can be likened to Monster, Dead Prez's Let's Get Free, which is in the same vein. Killer Mike's mental acuity really illuminates on tracks such as Rap is Dead, Scared Straight and Creep Show featuring Bizarre of D12 who is totally in his element on this track. I sincerely hope that being signed to T.I. will bring him the accolades he so richly deserves.

I always notice one of the beats was in the background on an aquemini skit.

Good album overall, i like it more now than i did when it came out.

R.A.P. music had something that a lot of hip hop albums have forgotten to add in recent years.

Twenty years ago today. Great album to this day. Can never go wrong with Dungeon Family on the boards. Beat Bullies had some bangers on here also.

Dope album, although I haven't heard it in years.

Do you like Slimm Calhoun - The Skinny? An even better OutKast helmed LP, although Slimm didn't have the staying power.

I am aware of it, but never got around to listening to it. Would you recommend it??

Yes definitely recommend that, a lot of great DF features and OutKast produced most of it, supposedly a lot of beats leftover from Aquemini.

I'm gonna revisit 'Monster' this week based on the thread. To be totally honest the album never clicked with me. I bought it when it dropped and found it hard to stay focused when listening to it. The same thing happened on repeated listens.

I hadn't played it in years but gave it another spin late last year. Still no joy. Will give it another try.

I am not familiar with the Slimm Calhoun album. I might check it out online. At the moment I'm not listening to much rap.

I love these type of anniversary threads. Please keep them coming. Thank you.
