Raafiq Alim, also known as Cheating Death or Merc Versus, is a veteran of the Indiana music scene (starting in 1996) and founded his own independent imprint and management company, Invisible Inc Multimedia, in 2007. Specializing in hip hop culture, Raafiq has been an official member of Universal Zulu Nation since 2010. He has performed throughout the midwest and shared the stage with Glue (Adeem & Maker), Cappadonna, Serengeti, Block McCloud of AOTP/Brooklyn Academy, Das Efx, Killah Priest, C-Rayz Walz, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Timbo King, Kinetic 9 (of Killarmy), Canibus, Twista, Bronze Nazareth & Wisemen, Black Sheep, Doodlebug (of Digable Planets), and more. Raafiq’s music appeared in the 2009 independent graffiti film Free Wall and he is also the cohost (with Goldeneye) of WECI 91.5 FM‘s own P.O.W.z Radio show, airing Saturdays noon-2pm EST.
Raafiq was called “a prophet” by the legendary Killah Priest of Wu-Tang/Sunz of Man. As a recording artist, Raafiq has worked with Detroit’s Bronze Nazareth & Kevlaar 7 of Wisemen, the UK’s Iron Braydz, Brooklyn’s Twin Perils, Philly’s Chief Kamachi, Thirstin Howl the 3rd, and more. He is currently a member of Bedlam Brethren (with Harlem’s Udi the Erratic Assassin and New Zealand’s Spearman) and the Zulu-affiliated Peaceful Order of Warriorz (along with Savage Trinity & Zion Seven of Verbal Godz and Goldeneye). Raafiq is often involved with charity and community-based events.
