^ DVSK - I see what i can do, i really wamt that one.. but i strongly doubt well be able to get a real HQ rip of this, maybe in the future though. as much as i love Roc Marciano's own production, I would absolutely love to see a Roc album mainly produced by Pete Rock, perhaps with a ccouple of tracks guest produced by Q-Tip or one of the DITCC brothers.
anyway, the two new releases that i'm currently bumping the shit out of is Roc's "Marci Beaucoup" and MF Grimm & Drasar's "Good Morning Vietman II" (4.75/5) - best abum of the year. one of my close friends really dig Roc as an emcee but to him he says pretty much all of Roc's beats sound very close to eachother, same tempo, same type of samples, which i strongly disagree with... "Marci Beaucoup" is a fantastic album, a strong 4/5 album at the very least, though a 4.5 rating is too generous.
but the LP is fantastic, i actually really dig how Roc produced the entire LP and while some people complained about the guests I thought it actually made the album better. We've heard so many Roc guest features over the last couple of years, so to hear his rugged blaxploatation sound, that this time incorporates a whole lot more soulful samples than for example "Reloaded", something that was also evident on "The Pimpire Strikes Back" - the sister album that worked as a free true solo album by Marc. in fact I prefer "Marci Beaocoup", the production is on point from track 1, the intro, to the Cormega assisted closer "Ruff Town" with it's majestic horns and beautiful vocal chops allowing both legends to get onn their pimp shit.
to me there's not a single bad track on here, while at the same time it's not quite as good as The UN album, or Roc's two first solo albums. Nevertheless, the beats are absolutely addictive, Roc is a master at taking his listener into his world, something he does just as good behind the boards or in front of he microphone. In an interview about a half year ago, Roc stated that "Beacoup" wss supposed to be a production compilation (like "Soul Survivor"), but i'm a whole lot better that Roc rhyme on the entire LP, albeit with a whole bunch of guests - most of them dropping real quality verses; from Action bronson, to KA, Knowledge The Pirate, AG (what a funky ass track with a great hook), Guilty Simpson, Greeneberg, Cormega, AG Da Coroner, Evidence, Maffew Ragazino, Blu, & Quelle Chris).
excellent album, like all the other Roc Marcy albums between The UN album (and "PeteStrumentals" of course), to "Reloaded" and the "Greeneberg" EP. i'm buying this when i have some more cash again to spend on records, been almost 6 months since last time...
4.2 / 5
