Fans always know more than the artists themselves. The artists are usually too busy creating the music to have time to be fanatical about it.
It reminds me of the famous SNL skit with William Shatner at a Star Trek convention. The fans are asking these really specific questions that they've obsessed over. Shatner has enough and screams "Get a life!" at them. He sees how upset they are and then has to backtrack and says ' that was the evil Kirk from episode -- talking", making the fans happy again with his super specific reference.
As for myself: I had come to the conclusion that there was nothing sacred about myself or any human being, that we were all machines, doomed to collide and collide and collide.
