Thread: Gza iz da only Wu member wit' a strong discog

Default Gza iz da only Wu member wit' a strong discog

    imo

I realized this when I listened to his last 3 albums over the last couple of days. All of his albums are well above average except for 'Pro Tools', which is still pretty good and much better than most Clansmen's later albums.

Ghost started strong with 2 classics but unfortunately hasn't put out anything worthwhile since. Admittedly I haven't heard anything he's done since 'More Fish', but no matter how good any of his recent albums are they wouldn't make up for all the albums in-between, which range from embarrassing to decent, most just being entirely forgettable.

Rae has a couple of average albums, but all in all the second strongest discog in the Clan.

Rza could have a strong discography if he'd cut all of his albums in half and discarded all the unnecessary tracks which make his albums such a drag to listen to.

Meth has a terrible album and forgettable one. Honestly, I don't even remember the name of that last album or any songs on it other than 'Say', or whatever that song with Lauryn Hill was called.

Uey has a couple of disastrous albums, but funnily enough still has one of the better discogs in the Clan despite all the mindless, sheepish hate.

Masta, Deck and ODB only have one really good album each.

    Discuss if you please.

What Ghost albums between Supreme and More Fish would you describe as "embarrassing"?

I liked all of U-God's albums, including the Hillside Scramblers.

Words From the Genius is a cool old school album. It's not a great album by any means, but enjoyable. Honestly though, I wasn't really including it as part of his discography, even though I guess you really should. Either way, I wouldn't say it weakens his discog as a whole.

BPW is the only embarrassing Ghost album I've heard. It's by far the most embarrassing of all Wu albums.

I kind of enjoy the Hillside Scramblers album too, but it's a pretty bad album. I'd still rather listen to it than a lot of other Wu releases though. 'Mr Excitement' was pretty bad too though. But yeah, Uey has a pretty good discog all in all.

I agree Gza's works seem to stick out overall compared to the other's solo work. I remember hearing 'Fame' and 'Animal planet' and I was hyped cause it reminded me of the track Labels.

Plus he was the only wu rapper on the Chappelle show. I still wished he would have spit something off of L.S. instead of knock knock but w.e.

Pro Tools was a banger. I like Words From the Genius, but it's GZA's worst album.
Masta Killa would have the best discography if he hadn't released "Selling My Souls".

GZA might have whack flow now, but he has the best non-albums songs 'cus he doesn't record a thousand of songs with every rapper, so we're not just fed up with his shit.

Which is better, releasing two albums in your whole career that were dope, thus not having any duds, or releasing about 10, with say 2 or 3 duds and the rest dope?

Its EASILY ghost. Yeah BPW sucked but nearly everything else was dope, shout out to Big Doe Rehab that is dope as fuck and SEVERLY overlooked.

I liked Words From The Genius, GZA on some old school back in the day shit. Pro Tools was boring as fuck, LOTLS was dull.

Masta Killa has only released 3 in 20 years so he doesnt count

    Ghostface has the best discography.

Two undisputed classics: Ironman, Supreme Clientele
    One near-classic: Fishscale
6 good to great albums: Bulletproof Wallets, Pretty Toney Album, More Fish, Big Doe Rehab, Apollo Kids, 12 Reasons To Die (more, if you count Put It On The Line, 718, Wu-Block & Wu-Massacre)
1 okay album: Wizard of Poetry. And it's not even bad.

    GZA's 2nd, maybe. But not 1st.

    One undisputed classic: Liquid Swords
    One near classic: Grandmasters
2 good to great albums: Beneath The Surface, LOLS
1 okay album: Pro Tools (Weak delivery kills it. Not bad though.)
1 wack album: Words From The Genius

Gzas discography is a lot smaller but a lot more consistent whereas ghostfaces is a lot bigger and less consistent.

Ghostface has 2 classics whereas gza has one classic but grandmasters and beneath the surface are better than fishscale imo.

I don't get it why it doesn't count? I'd rather see Raekwon releasing an album in every 5 year, but dope than 1 album/mixtape every year, but average.
