I like it when comedians can show off their acting skills in a different way. Good examples : Jim Carrey in the Truman Show & The Number 23. A lot of people hated The Number 23 but I highly enjoyed it.
A lot of comedians probably want to step out of the funny box they're put into, so to speak, but they rarely get the chance. That means studios have to take a risk, and that's not what Hollywood is about (cf endless Spiderman reboots etc.)
