I'm not expert in classifying the music, but I see it like this;
If Nicole Wray isn't R&B then neither is Aliyah. And if Aliyah isn't R&B then Maria Isabel isn't either.
But then again I'm not sure how to explain a difference between soul and R&B. Is Marvin Gaye Soul or R&B? Al Green? How far back does R&B go before you start calling it "retro" or soul?

Erykah Badu's Mama's Gun dropped twenty years ago today. Love the organic feel of this album and she made it much easier to understand than her first album for mainstream audiences. Only sold about half of what Baduizm did, but still a surefire banger regardless..

my sister was a big Erykah Badu fan. I heard a lot of those albums through the wall that divided our rooms back in the day haha
