An Indiana couple is in jail after police discover a video of the woman's 12-month-old daughter putting a handgun in her mouth as she is encouraged to say "bang."
The video was found when the man, 19-year-old Michael Barnes, was arrested for trying to sell a handgun to an undercover officer, according to an Associated Press story.

The Evansville (Indiana) Police Department said the video showed the child playing with a .40 caliber handgun. "At no point does Barnes try to stop the child from playing with the gun," a statement from the department read.
In addition to gun charges, Barnes was charged with resisting law enforcement with a weapon, carrying a handgun without a permit and carrying a handgun without a permit within 500 feet of a school, according to a press release from Evansville Police.

Barnes was charged with child neglect, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and allowing a child to possess a firearm once the cellphone video was discovered, police said.

The child's mother, Toni Wilson, 22, faces the same charges. The 1-year-old, as well as the couple's 1-month-old twins, were removed from the home.
    Retired.

--- Mother charged with murder after setting newborn on fire on New Jersey road

    Hyphernkemberly?

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey woman who authorities say put her newborn baby in the middle of a road and set the child on fire was charged Saturday with murder.

Burlington County prosecutors said Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Pemberton Township was jailed on $500,000 bail. It wasn't known if she has retained a lawyer.

Police responded to a Friday night call about a fire in the middle of a residential road in the township, about 30 miles east of Philadelphia. Officers found the baby in flames and put out the fire.

The child reportedly was alive and breathing at the time she was flown to a hospital in Philadelphia, said Joel Bewley, a spokesman for the prosecutor's office. She died about two hours later, he said in a news release. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Authorities believe the mother doused her baby with an accelerant then set her on fire, Bewley said. They do not have a motive. The woman was taken into custody Friday night.

Prosecutor Robert Bernardi said details of the baby's birth were still being investigated. The baby's age has not been disclosed. Bernardi would not comment on whether the mother has a criminal record or if she has been involved with child welfare officials.

Dave Joseph, 45, of Pemberton Township told The Burlington County Times that he saw a young woman get out of her car and light something on fire in the middle of Simontown Road. He said the woman told him she was burning dog waste.

Joseph said the woman appeared calm and soon tried to flee the scene, but residents stopped her.

"It was just mind-boggling," Joseph said. "It was a nightmare even if you have a strong heart."

--- Mom on trial accused of killing 5-year-old with salt

A confounding and heartbreaking murder case alleging that a mother purposely poisoned her 5-year-old son with salt and documented his decline on social media began Monday in the New York suburbs.

Lacey Spears, 27, of Scottsville, Kentucky, who presented herself online as a supremely devoted mother, is charged with depraved murder and manslaughter in the death a year ago of Garnett-Paul Spears.

"This mother was intentionally feeding her child salt at toxic levels," prosecutor Doreen Lloyd said at Spears' arraignment.

The boy's sodium levels rose to a dangerous point with no medical explanation, prosecutors said, leading to a swollen brain, seizures and death. They believe his single mother, who was sharing his hospital room at Westchester Medical Center, administered salt through a feeding tube into Garnett's stomach.

All the while, she was keeping followers up to date with 28 online postings in the last 11 days of his life, noting his death with, "Garnett the great journeyed onward today at 10:20 a.m." She had tens of thousands of entries over Garnett's lifetime, many about his doctor and hospital visits.

"My Sweet Angel Is In The Hospital For The 23rd Time," Spears tweeted on Nov. 9, 2009, adding a sad-faced emoticon. "Please Pray He Gets To Come Home Soon."

Jury selection began Monday with a pool of 90 potential jurors on hand at the courthouse. Several told the judge they had seen some of the extensive news coverage of the case.

In rulings delivered last week, Lacey Spears' messages on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace were determined relevant and are likely to be introduced as evidence. Some of the posted photos depict Garnett's declining health, said acting state Supreme Court Justice Robert Neary.

Neary also found that prosecutors can tell jurors about Internet research Spears did on her iPhone into the dangers of sodium in children and the properties of iodized salt.

In addition, the judge said Garnett's hospital records from Alabama, Florida and New York are relevant and "inextricably interwoven into the fabric of this case. They provide a history of the child's medical issues and treatment leading up to his death. They illustrate the defendant's role as custodian and care giver."

Prosecutors believe Spears often lied to doctors about Garnett's health, for example claiming he had celiac disease when he didn't.

Spears' lawyers have not publicly detailed a defense strategy and did not return calls seeking comment. Attorney Stephen Riebling said in July that the defense would focus "on the relevant facts, not fiction."

Spears, originally from Decatur, Alabama, was living in Chestnut Ridge, New York, at the time of Garnett's death. She moved to Kentucky before her arrest in June and has been jailed since then. A man who says he is Garnett's father lives in Alabama.

Other evidence in the case includes bags used to feed Garnett which prosecutors say have "extraordinary" concentrations of sodium. The prosecution says Spears tried to cover up by asking a friend to take a feeding bag, "get rid of it and don't tell anybody."

The trial apparently will not include any reference to Munchausen by proxy, a disorder in which caretakers purposely but secretly harm children and then enjoy the attention and sympathy they receive. Some experts regard it as a mental illness and a defense to such crimes, while others consider it a motive. Several believe Spears' case fits the syndrome.

Spears' lawyers asked the judge to prohibit any mention of Munchausen and prosecutors said they had no plans to bring it up.

The murder charge alleges Garnett was killed "under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life" rather than with intent. It carries the same maximum sentence as intentional murder, however — 25 years to life. The manslaughter count alleges Spears killed her son "while intending to cause serious physical injury."

Sources told News 4 Clay and her daughter’s father were at their daughter’s birthday party when Clay and the father got into an argument. Authorities said she was angry with the father because he did not take her on a day when a visitation was scheduled.

--- Woman suffocated her fiancé's three-year-old daughter to death using duct tape, after he broke up with her.

A woman is charged with suffocating her fiance's daughter to death after he found racy texts on her phone and ended the relationship, a court heard.

Melinda Muniz, now 26, is charged with killing three-year-old Grace Ford on January 9, 2014 - hours after Grace's father, an Iraq War veteran, told her to move out of their Plano, Texas, apartment. Grace, who also suffered severe injuries to her genitalia, died when she was taken off life support three days later in hospital. This week a jury heard Muniz told police she was raped and knocked unconscious by an intruder who taped Grace's mouth shut. However, after tests refuted her story, Muniz claimed she had amnesia and could not remember the past two years, Star Local Media reported.

In a third interview, prosecutors say, Muniz said Grace put duct tape over her mouth so Muniz panicked and knocked herself unconscious with a pan. She then said that she noticed Grace had tape over her mouth, pulled it off, saw she was unconscious, put it back on, and knocked herself out. She said she 'didn't know' if it was an accident or intentional, the court heard.

An investigation has since revealed Muniz was allegedly seen purchasing duct tape and zip wires hours before Grace was found lifeless on her bed with tape over her mouth and wires around the room, though Muniz claimed these were arts and crafts materials.

Searches for 'duct tape' and 'kill' were also found on a MacBook recovered from the property Muniz shared with Grace and then-fiance Mitch Ford, the jury heard.
Muniz, who acted as caretaker for Grace since father Mitch Ford won full custody in 2013, faces life in prison without parole if found guilty.

The couple met in September 2012, a year and a half after Grace was born.
He gained full custody from his ex-wife Emily Reeves Ward, who became addicted to alcohol and prescription pills after he returned from his second Iraq war and their relationship broke down.

Ford said he proposed to Muniz in December 2013 but ended the relationship on January 9, the morning after he saw she had texted pictures of her in underwear to her personal trainer.

He told the court: 'As I was getting ready for work, I let her know I found that stuff on her phone,' he testified. 'It wasn't a big argument or anything. I said it wasn't going to work and called off the engagement. She was kind of unemotional, like it wasn't really a big deal.

'There wasn't a fight. I provided everything for her. I told her she had a week [to move out]. She could keep the engagement ring and sell it and keep the car to drive around and look for jobs. She didn't cry, didn't appear angry.'
The murder trial, which opened on Tuesday, has also heard evidence from the first emergency officers to reach the scene of the crime - who testified that Muniz appeared to be pretending to be unconscious.

I felt like it wasn't genuine Officer Camille Bowie who was first on the scene on January 9, 2014 'She took a big breath and kind of gently fell to the floor as if she had fainted,' Officer Camille Bowie said. 'Her eyes were kind of fluttering, like she was trying to keep them shut forcefully. There's no movement in the eyes and body when someone faints – if you really faint, you're not going to gently place yourself. I felt like it wasn't genuine.'
Ford told the court he contacted police after his phone call with Muniz was cut short.
He said he was at work, Muniz phoned to say she had just got home with Grace, and the phone seemingly fell to the floor.

He arrived at the apartment at the same time as the officers. Muniz was lying on her front with her underwear around her ankles. Grace was in a bedroom on her front and remained unresponsive as she was taken to ER at The Medical Center of Plano.
She was given a dose of epinephrine which started her heart, then doctors noticed bruising and blood around her vaginal area. 'I believed Grace had been sexually assaulted,' Dr Richard Honaker testified.

Deborah Davis, the health practitioner who examined Muniz for evidence of sexual assault, said: 'Other than her verbalizing, I saw nothing to indicate any sexual assault. The defendant didn't seem emotional, was pretty quiet and very cooperative.'
Muniz said she had purchased duct tape, scissors, zip ties and cotton swabs from Dollar Tree for an arts and crafts project.

As she began cleaning, she said Grace must have gotten scared, thinking Muniz was about to vacuum, so she ran to her bedroom and taped her mouth.
Muniz explained that she donned gloves and partially removed the duct tape from Grace's mouth to see if she was OK. When it was clear Grace wasn't breathing, she panicked and put the tape back on. Then, as Grace lay unconscious, she gathered the scissors, zip ties and duct tape and disposed of it in a Dumpster across the parking lot, she said.

In a recorded interview with Muniz, played to the jury, Detective Chris Jones said: 'I'm going to be straight-up honest with you: There are issues with your story. You brought up that Grace had duct tape on her when that was never mentioned. How did you know if you were unconscious?'

He added that the time frame was unrealistic, saying the six minutes between the 911 call and authorities' arrival was 'not realistic' for an intruder to physically and sexually assault two people. Muniz is due to testify on Monday.

Wow these women are sick and need to be in prison for life. Killing kids is wrong because they didn't ask to be born.

--- Girl told boyfriend she has been having sex with her dogs since she was 13 and often fantasizes about incest

A 20-year-old mother was arrested after she confessed to her boyfriend she enjoyed - and had been engaging in - sex with her dogs since she was 13-years-old and often fantasized about incest.

Brittany Angelique Sonnier, 20, is accused of committing 'vaginal and oral sex with two canines' in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and has been charged with two counts of crimes against nature.

She had originally been charged with bestiality. The police were alerted to the alleged animal sex by Sonnier's boyfriend, who has not been named.

He said he was worried about her 11-month-old son, feared she may be addicted to sex and need help and believed she turned to animal sex at 13 because she could not get a partner at that age.

According to the police report, the man had been in a six-month relationship with Sonnier, who he thought was a 'nice, sweet and innocent girl', and thought everything was going really well.

During the summer, problems started to arise and their sex life started to suffer, he said. It was during this time she came home from work one day and told him they needed to 'talk'.

'They sat down and Brittany used his phone to look some things up,' the police report states. 'He expected Brittany to ask if they could have a threesome or if he wanted to be a swinging couple. He would have been fine with either of those things - he is very open.

'Instead, Brittany started to show him pictures of people having sex with animals. She told him that she was interested and into having sex with dogs. She went on to tell him that she has been having sex with their family dogs since she was 13 years old.'

He told police that she claimed to have both 'vaginal and oral sex' with the dogs. He did not know what type but called them 'medium sized' and said one was 13-years-old and the other just a couple of years old.

Speaking about her interest in incest, she showed him images on her phone of family cartoon characters having sex.

The ex-boyfriend told police he was 'disturbed and freaked out' and said he told Sonnier 'she was disgusting.' The two broke up shortly after, according to the Huffington Post.
Before calling police, he thought he would broach it with the girl's father who revealed he knew about the dog sex and said he was trying to gain custody of her 11-month-old son because he felt his daughter was not a good parent.

The boyfriend also revealed the 20-year-old may be pregnant with his child as she had stopped taking her birth control pills and had displayed signs of being pregnant, though she refused to take the test. He also believes she intends to become a prostitute because 'in the past she told him she is good at sex and enjoys doing it and feels like she should get paid for it'. The police report adds: 'She will have sex with anyone anywhere, at any time because she is an addict.'

--- Police arrested an Ocoee couple on child neglect charges last week after investigators found they were housing six children in a garbage-ridden, roach-infested home with no electricity, court documents show.

According to an affidavit prepared by police, the investigation began when two officers went to the house on Wurst Road early Jan. 24 after receiving an anonymous tip that children were being neglected there.

Upon arriving, they smelled a "strong odor of dirt" and animals coming from the home, and found the six children, who "appeared to be soiled and to not have bathed in quite some time," the affidavit states.

Sametta Daugherty, 25, who was caring for the children with her husband, 33-year-old David Daugherty, told police she did bathe the kids — by using water she heated up on the grill, the affidavit says.

There was a dog and "at least three" cats in the house, as well as a pig in the back yard, police said.

Officers noticed the home was being powered by a generator in the yard; Sametta Daugherty said she owed the power company $2,000. The officers called the Department of Children and Families.

A detective inspected the home Feb. 10, the affidavit states. She noted that Daugherty was "visibly pregnant and smoking a cigarette" when she arrived about 1:30 p.m., and seemed to be intoxicated.

The children were dirty "from head to toe," wrote the detective, who added she was "overwhelmed" by bad smells.

"As I walked through the house I gagged and had to breathe through my mouth to prevent from throwing up," the detective wrote in her affidavit.

The detective noted trash bags overflowing with rotten food and "insects spilling onto the dirty stained concrete floors," as well as bugs and roaches crawling on "every surface," including beds and couches.

"A cooler contained dirty water, 15 cans of beer and a bag of chicken nuggets; this was being used as a food source for the children," the affidavit says.

The detective called in other officials, who deemed the house unsafe and a fire hazard, ordering it evacuated and condemned, records show.

The affidavit noted that the couple has been the subject of "numerous" police and DCF investigations and had been given "ample opportunities" to clean up. They were arrested on charges of child neglect.

Sametta Daugherty told police she "blamed society for not helping her keep her house in better shape," the affidavit states.

A DCF spokeswoman confirmed Monday that the children have been taken into protective custody.
