    bad guy Kylo Ren

More plot details for the upcoming movie Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens have been revealed today--on Star Wars Day--throughVanity Fair. The magazine has the scoop on the characters actors Adam Driver (Girls) and Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) will play in J.J. Abrams' upcoming sci-fi epic.
Driver will play a Darth Vader-like bad guy named Kylo Ren, who lives on an ice planet and has Stormtroopers at his command, as you can see in the image below.

We've also learned that Nyong'o will play a CGI character named Maz Kanata. It's unclear which side she's fighting for, but we do know she's some form of pirate. Award-winning effects studio Industrial Light & Magic is responsible for bringing her character to life in the movie.
Head over to Vanity Fair to see even more photos from the set of The Force Awakens.
The movie opens on December 18, 2015. Last month at the Star Wars Celebration, we saw a new trailer for The Force Awakens and learned a lot about DICE's upcoming shooter Star Wars: Battlefront.

Brienne of Tarth plays the metal Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

This month's Star Wars-centric issue of Vanity Fair finally reveals that Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie is officially playing Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fans got their first look at her in her shiny Stormtrooper armor in the latest trailer, which debuted last month. After the photo leaked online this morning, Vanity Fair writer Joanna Robinson tweeted the official image.

In the Vanity Fair spread, Phasma is revealed to be an officer of the First Order, the evil organization formed from the remnants of the Galactic Empire. Christie is already known (and loved) for her portrayal of Brienne of Tarth on HBO, so we can imagine that she'll bring the same intensity to the film. We also know that the First Order is allied with new villain Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, so it's likely the two characters will have a run-in or two when the film hits theaters this winter.

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Spoilers: Details To Rey's Capture, Kylo Ren's ‘Mental’ Connection With Rey Revealed

A few more spoilers for “Star Wars: the Force Awakens” have been released ahead of its theatrical release on Dec. 18. 2015. This time it narrates some of the details surrounding Rey’s capture by the Stormtroopers and her confrontation with her rumoured brother in the film, the villain Sith Kylo Ren.

Jason Ward from Making Star Wars revealed the events that transpired before and during Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) time in the dungeon at an evil castle where she’s being held prisoner. Rey saw the First Order invade the green planet and also witnessed the destruction of the buildings by the super weapon.

Kylo Ren and his team of First Order Stormtroopers immediately headed to the green planet, which in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is believed to be Yavin IV. They survey the destruction caused by the superweapon. This is supposedly when they also spotted Rey, who was instantly pursued and captured by the Stormtroopers. Finn (John Boyega) reportedly saw the capture unfold from afar but couldn’t save Rey. Luckily for him and BB-8, they evaded the capture and are soon seen meeting Princess Leia at the Resistance base.

As for Rey, she is taken as prisoner and kept in a dungeon at the First Order Stormtrooper’s evil castle on the snow planet. Ward said an interrogation scene in “Star Wars: the Force Awakens” would show whose Jedi powers prove more powerful between Rey and the villain Sith Kylo Ren.

During the interrogation, Ren would reportedly use his powers against Rey. However, she “reverses this ‘probe’ from Kylo as she’s mentally stronger than him or just more powerful in the Force.” In the process, Rey learns Kylo Ren’s intent on matching Darth Vader’s Jedi powers, to which Rey tells him, “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.” “She apparently has learned something about Kylo instead of Kylo learning something about her during this metaphysical connection they have formed,” Ward explained.

Rey manages to escape from the dungeon after she uses her Jedi Mind Control tricks to convince the Stormtroopers to leave their post. A scene in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” would reportedly show her creeping out of the ventilation system and heading towards the forest where she meets Han Solo, Finn and Chewbacca after they’ve crash landed the Millennium Falcon through the snow planet’s forest.

These film scene details emerged following the Vanity Fair cover featuring some of the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” characters, which include Chewbacca, Han Solo, Finn and Rey. According to Star Wars Underworld, the May issue of the magazine will also feature an article about the film and some more photos of the cast members. The new issue will be out on newsstands on May 12 and will be available online on May 7.

'Star Wars: Episode VII' reaches 6 new confirmed characters

With specific roles revealed in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for Adam Driver and Gwendoline Christie on Star Wars Day 2015 known as 'May the Fourth Be With You,' it's time to recap the roster of new-generation actors heading up the December movie.
    Kylo Ren - Adam Driver
Driver's involvement as a "Star Wars" villain was outed in February 2014 with a high-profile tweet from "Girls" co-star, writer and creator Lena Dunham. November's first teaser featured a lean, menacing cloaked figure whose profile fit that of Driver, immediately linking him with the force-wielding villain Kylo Ren. Disney confirmed those suspicions through a Vanity Fair exclusive photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz revealed on May 4.

    Captain Phasma - Gwendoline Christie
Clad head to toe in reflective silver armor, Phasma had already shown up in April's second teaser, asserting her status as an ass-kicking elite Stormtrooper. Known for bringing a nuanced performance to the "Game of Thrones" part of warrior knight Brienne, Christie's due a high-profile year end with "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" joining "The Force Awakens."

    Maz Kanata - Lupita Nyong'o
The role of Oscar-winning Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave") was the third "Star Wars VII" one confirmed through Vanity Fair on Star Wars Day, her face covered in motion capture markers in one behind-the-scenes photo and pirate chief Kanata forming part of a group portrait in another.

    Finn - John Boyega
Young Stormtrooper Finn appears to be at a crossroads in the first two trailers, stuck on the desert planet Jakku, offered help by another primary character, Rey, and generally overcome by events. Boyega made his film debut in sci-fi comedy "Attack the Block" and has since chalked up appearances in vampire gig "Becoming Human," special ops thriller "24: Live Another Day" and literary adaptation "Half of a Yellow Sun."

    Rey - Daisy Ridley
Rey, a scavenger on the surface of Jakku, appears to be a key player in events of "The Force Awakens" and is expected to return for the other two films. Ridley's first career credit was in one of three shorts made for interactive first aid site life-saver.org.uk, followed by appearances on British TV dramas like "Casualty" and "Silent Witness."

    Poe Dameron - Oscar Isaac
Representing new "Star Wars" faction The Resistance in both trailers, Poe Dameron is an X-Wing pilot in conflict with Kylo Ren and Cpt. Phasma's First Order. A recognized talent after winning a Golden Globe for critical darling "Inside Llewyn Davis," Isaac played opposite Jessica Chastain in "A Most Violent Year" and has "X-Men: Apocalypse" coming up.

The Playlist just shared some quotes from director J.J. Abrams regarding references made to the original Star Wars trilogy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens:
“… we’ve obviously had a lot of time [during the development process] to talk about what’s happened outside of the borders of the story that you’re seeing. So there are, of course, references to things, and some are very oblique so that hopefully the audience can infer what the characters are referring to. We used to have more references to things that we pulled out because they almost felt like they were trying too hard to allude to something. I think that the key is—and whether we’ve accomplished that or not is, of course, up to the audience—but the key is that references be essential so that you don’t reference a lot of things that feel like, oh, we’re laying pipe for, you know, an animated series or further movies. It should feel like things are being referenced for a reason.”

‘Star Wars 7’ Spoilers: Actor Oscar Isaac Reveals Character Details About Poe Dameron

“Star Wars 7” actor Oscar Isaac is teasing few details about his pilot character, Poe Dameron. The pilot figure Isaac plays has made cameos in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer and early promotional stills, and is positioned to be one of the lead characters in the new set of “Star Wars” movies. The actor hinted that Dameron comes from the first planet audiences saw play host to a rebel base in “Star Wars: A New Hope,” Yavin 4.

According to the Associated Press, Isaac let the potential spoiler slip when he was noting a personal connection to his character. Oscar Isaac was born in Guatemala, the country where the closing moments of the first “Star Wars” movie was filmed.
“I think that Poe Dameron is from that planet ... and that's a beautiful coincidence," he said.

The lush green planet seen in the 1977 movie was actually the setting of Tikal, Guatemala. Tikal is home to several Mayan ruins, some even pictured in the film. It’s at this base that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) jumps into his first X-Wing fighter to take down Darth Vader’s colossus, the Death Star. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) returns to help Luke finish the mission in what would then be known as the Battle of Yavin in the “Star Wars” universe.

The cast has been mostly tight-lipped regarding details about their characters, as is the on-going battle of secrecy on a J.J. Abrams movie. Poe Dameron’s name was revealed in December after the first teaser made its way online. His uniform is much like what audiences have seen before on rebel forces and Luke Skywalker.

Rumor has it that the rebel pilot may be the son of Han Solo, which would explain the top-notch piloting skills. Alas, they are only rumors at the moment, but ones that may point to more screen time for Dameron in "Star Wars 8" since Han Solo actor Harrison Ford is recuperation from a real life plane accident just a few months ago.
