"STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A Wu-Tang Clan affiliate accused of a shooting 16 months ago in Concord appears poised to spend the week before his 39th birthday in a St. George courtroom on trial for attempted murder.

State Supreme Court Justice William E. Garnett said at a proceeding on Tuesday he expects to hear opening statements in Jeryl Grant's trial on March 23.

Grant, an ex-convict, whose birthday is April 2, is accused of shooting Darnell Brown, then 33, six times in the chest on Nov. 16, 2013, in Concord. Brown survived.

Brown's shooting occurred down the block from the Sangita Shala nightclub at 556 Richmond Rd. about 4 a.m., according to police.

Grant, a Wu-Tang Clan affiliate who raps under the name Killa Sin for the "Killarmy," told detectives he had parked behind the nightclub earlier in the evening, and when he returned, he found people congregated around his truck, according to a law enforcement source."
