My kind of thread. I like!
My first hiphop album by a Southern artist ever was 'Made Man' by Silkk The Shocker. (I had no clue about rappers in the south.) To this day it remains one of the most craptastic albums I proudly own. Just check the sig below.
Silkk has changed his flow a few times in his career. However, he did remain good at not staying on beat. Perseverance is key! His 'rap one line really fast, rap one line rather slow' period was entertaining to say the least.
'Based on a true story' had less of a No Limit vibe to it so in and of itself it is perhaps his best album (again, flow wise this guy doesn't matter any way). However, I have a soft spot for 'My world, my way'. Some good stuff on there next to utterly forgettable songs.
It contains a remix to this 504 Boyz track ft. Pusha T, known as Terrar (or Terror) back then. This predates Clipse's first officially released album iirc.
Here's the original version, a Neptunes production.
His worst album is 'Made Man'. Not only does it contain Enya-type songs like these two
(Panda Piss, feel free to use in the 'R&B thread'.)
but also No Limit decided NOT to go with the original album cover...
This was of course the downfall of No Limit. Just look at that epic cover. It provides Silkky with EIGHT cool ways to escape the police :
* the helicopter
* the yacht
* generic expensive car #1
* generic expensive car #2
* generic expensive car #3
* pooch #1 (think of it as a getaway pony)
* pooch #2 (ditto)
* giant black Casper the Friendly Ghost towering above his mansion
Now THAT's real thug power.
Also, Silkk's fashion sense is at lofty STYLEMASTER levels here. Just check that shirt.
I rest my case.

Retired.
Eye had 'The Shocker' when eye was a young blood, but the only thing eye remember from it was a hook that went...
"I ain't takin' no shorts
Whether it be in this rap game or the dope game
Bitch, I'm still the mayn"
where is the option none of the above whodi?
N.I.
What are wrong with Enya type songs whodi?
to me The Shocker is his best and rawest solo, but he is at his best on the TRU albums easily
I actually only have Based on a true story, so I need to get caught up on his other albums.
Pretty much avoided everything downsouth related when it was hot, bought The Source though and it was always full of those advertisements for No Limit or Cash Money releases. Caught a few good laughs of off those lol.
The Pen & Pixel album covers were hilarious.
Also, since you never bought any of the albums ... Funny thing was that each CD booklet advertised for a shitload of other NL albums to come out, some of them never actually being released after years of advertising. (Thinking of that Pheno album, never released right? Same for Porscha.) I also remember a hilarious Master P talking doll ad, along with ads for the ugliest sneakers ever (Master P sneakers - no surprises there).
NL had marketing down to a T.

Rare early TRU track. The typical later NL sound isn't there yet.
