Two Final Contenders For Peter Parker Role Revealed

The search for the role of the new Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot is reportedly down to two actors. Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are said to be the only young stars left as contenders.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have reportedly narrowed down their list of possible young actors to portray the role of the web slinger in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Galactic News One noted Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci’s post on his Twitter page regarding the casting update.

A few days back it was reported that Asa Butterfield (“Ender’s Game”) was the main contender as Peter Parker. Now it remains unclear who among the two young actors will grab the role of Spider-Man.
Movie scoopster Umberto Gonzalez once said on his Instagram post that Asa Butterfield has been Marvel and Sony’s top choice for the role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man since the beginning. Comicbookmovie likewise quoted a source who claimed that Butterfield may have been cast already since he's been Marvel's choice as Spider-Man “since day one.” However, per Gonzalez the actor’s agency offered no comment when asked for confirmation.
Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland (“The Impossible”) were among the five actors supposedly listed by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures as contenders for the role of the high school web slinger in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Natt Wolf (“The Fault In Our Stars”), Timothee Chalamet (“Interstellar”) and Liam James (“The Way Way Back”) were initially rumoured to have been shortlisted.

The Wrap had mentioned last week that these five young stars were not even given test offers. However, writer Jeff Sneider said that Marvel and Sony had planned to make the test offers then and that the result will be announced three weeks after the offers have been made.
The new Peter Parker will be making his debut through a cameo appearance in “Captain America: Civil War.” Spider-Man will be appearing in the May 6, 2016 sequel prior to starring in his solo film in July 2017. The “Spider-Man” reboot, which is rumoured to have been given the title “Spider-Man: The New Avengers,” marks the web slinger’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    Lmao

Is this a joke? I haven't seen the last two films staring Andrew Garfield but this is beyond stupid.

The first three films by Sam Raimi were classics. Sony messed up! Leave it alone.

Spider-Man Movie: Sony & Marvel Spin Web Of Directors For New Franchise

In the wake of the massive opening of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, it’s no surprise that the audition process everybody’s talking about is the selection of a director for the next iteration of Sony Pictures’ live-action Spider-Man franchise, the first one that teams rights holder Sony Pictures with Marvel Studios genius Kevin Feige (after Ultron became Marvel’s ninth straight hit, is that designation overstatement?)

There are all kinds of rumors raging about the wall crawler, including that Feige and his producing accomplice Amy Pascal are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies, each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker, who’ll already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again. The tone they are searching for in the coming of age tale is John Hughes humor and emotion, plus all the superhero stuff.

Here are the filmmakers I’m told are seriously in the mix right now. Don’t take this as being all inclusive, but it sounds like things are moving quickly and they could make a decision by the end of next week and make a final choice with studio chief Tom Rothman. There is 50/50 and Warm Bodies writer/helmer Jonathan Levine; Ted Melfi, writer/director of Golden Globe-nommed St. Vincent; Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore; John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors/writers of the updated version of John Hughes’ Vacation; and Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean writer/director Jared Hess

There is a separate simultaneous search going on for a new young actor to play Peter Parker. That role might be cast before a director and writers are set because the character is expected to show up in the next Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War, which is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo before they take over The Avengers franchise. Tell you more when I know it.

‘Spider-Man' Reboot Film Details: Peter Parker's Story To Be Told In Four Movie Series

The ‘Spider-Man’ reboot is going to be made into four movies. According to a recent report, these four-part series will all explore the life of the high school Peter Parker as the web slinger.

Deadline on its exclusive report about the “Spider-Man” reboot claimed Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal “are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies.” Writer Mike Fleming Jr. said each of these movies will explore a year into Peter Parker’s life. However, these series of films will not be an origin story, unlike the previous “The Amazing Spider-Man” series. Per Fleming by then the high school Peter Parker is already Spider-Man, since he’ll ”already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again,” he added.

The four-part “Spider-Man” series will reportedly be a coming of age tale of how Peter Parker handles being a superhero. The reboot will reportedly have a tone reminiscent of a John Hughes humour and emotion, but mixed with all the superhero details needed for the film.

Spider-Man’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe involves a cameo appearance in the May 6, 2016 film, “Captain America: Civil War.” No details have been released yet regarding his role in the sequel. The web slinger will debut in the film before he stars in the July 28, 2017 “Spider-Man” reboot, which has reportedly been given the working title “Spider-Man: The New Avenger.”

The search for a young actor to play the high school Peter Parker is reportedly still ongoing. But Marvel and Sony may want to hasten the final selection. If Spider-Man is to make a cameo appearance in “Civil War,” then a young actor should have already been cast since per Screenrant, production on the "Captain America" sequel already started in April.

Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland were previously reported as the last two final contenders for the role of Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci shared the news on his Twitter page.

I like the idea of a coming of age story spread out over 4 movies. there will certainly be enough room for character development - and various villains

Looks Like Asa Butterfield Is The New Spider-Man (?)

UPDATE: The validity of this story has been challenged. Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter is saying that no offer has been made yet. Asa Butterfield is apparently testing for the role this week, but he isn't the only actor doing so. That being said, it does sound like he is still the frontrunner for the gig.

The story as it was originally published is below.

With Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War now in production, we knew it was only a matter of time before Marvel Studios finally settled on an actor to sign as their new version of Spider-Man. Well, if new reports are to be believed, it sounds like they may have found their man, as a source is now claiming that Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield has entered into negotiations for the role.

This story comes from known scooper Umberto Gonzalez, who claims to have heard from his sources that Asa Butterfield and his representatives is now sitting down with the comic book movie studio to hash out a deal that could see him become the third live-action version of Peter Parker. No deal has been finalized yet, but the fact that they're at the table is a big sign.

Asa Butterfield's name first entered the mix back in late April, but at that time he was reportedly in consideration alongside Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Liam James, and Timothee Chalamet. Two weeks ago, it was said that the Hugo actor was considered the frontrunner in the group, though it was said Holland was presenting his biggest competition. It seems as though since then they have been able to make a decision.

When thinking about what Marvel Studios has said about their new direction for Spider-Man, Asa Butterfield does make a good amount of sense. They have gone on record saying that they are looking to find a legitimately young actor to play Peter Parker, and Butterfield just turned 18 a month-and-a-half ago (which also happens to mean that he's no longer a minor and can work full days during a movie shoot). The young actor also has the experience of headlining his own projects before, including the aforementioned titles Ender's Game and Hugo. It's worth noting that he is currently in production on Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiars, but that filming shouldn't impact potential for him to show up in Captain America: Civil War - regardless of the size of the role that has been carved out for the character in the movie.

If this news is accurate, we will hopefully be hearing official word at some point in the near future - but the announcement of Asa Butterfield may not be the only thing revealed. It's also very possible that they have chosen a filmmaker to helm the Spider-Man movie that is currently scheduled for release in the summer of 2017 (the last we heard, Jonathan Levine, Ted Melfi, Jason Moore, John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, and Jared Hess).
