Default Lyrically 36 Chambers isn't that good IMO.

I know you have to put the album into context (When it was released/ Era ect.... ), but I just don't find 36 lyrically that good.

the bars have a lot of energy to them, backed by the beats & the chemistry between the members, so there's a lot of good stuff

on the real Forever is better lyrically

but you'll never hear me say 36 is lyrically weak

all in all I guess I see your point yeah

EDIT : didn't see the poll first. voted 'yes it's dope' cuz you can't say the lyrics are bad, but lyrically there are better wu albums out there yes

I agree, but I am talking about lyrically. When I listen to 36, some of the rhymes sound real simple.

There is other stuff that was released around the same time, that is >>>>>>>

purely from a lyrical point of view you are right

could you name some non wu releases from around that time that were highlights for you lyrically?

    Nas' Illmatic

Even the Grym Reaper and Gatekeeper from Gravediggaz where lyrically better than the majority of the clan, from around the same period.

Wu-Tang Forever is lyrically way better than 36 Chambers, but on 36 Chambers the whole Clan was so hungry for rhyming that their rhymes sound sooo sharp

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Rev. 3:15-16)

36 Chambers is so dope, because it's a great appetizer for the clan. You get the gist of every dude. They would go on to elaborate on their styles on the solo records through Forever, but 36 will always be the perfect introduction to the Wu.

    Lyrics on 36 are powerful.
    Cappa is a nice MC.
Comme les anges à l'œil fauve
    Je reviendrai dans ton alcôve
Et vers toi glisserai sans bruit
Comme les ombres de la nuit.

It was good for its time, not terrible. Some like RZA, GZA and Deck were already solid while others, especially Ghost, had room for improvement.
Illmatic was the high watermark of the early 90s and drastically changed how lyrics were written.
As for myself: I had come to the conclusion that there was nothing sacred about myself or any human being, that we were all machines, doomed to collide and collide and collide.

Cappa's a nice MC? What world do you live in? If Cappa hadn't been Clan's friend he wouldn't have recorded a single song. Cappa is a perfect example that even without an emceeing talent it's possible to make a lot of money.

Of course some of his tracks are dope like verse on "Winter Warz" (lyrically is still avarge, but the flow is ahhh), maybe some shit from Ironman and the Pillage, which is dope mostly because of the beats.

I disagree. 36 Chambers is great lyrically.

Just because rhymes are more technically complex, doesn't mean they're better.

Some of the best songs and poems ever written have simple lyrics.

When Wu-Tang performs songs from 36 Chambers, the crowd sings along, and knows every word.

That's a sign of great lyrics.

So you didn't like anything Wu-Tang did when they came out and you don't like anything they have done recently.

So how are you a fan again?
