Default Looking back at Showbiz & AG's "Mugshot Music"

Released in 2012, Showbiz & AG's "Mugshot Music" was definitley one of my most anticipated albums in a long time. In the build up before it's release 5 singles were released that all banged HARD ("South Bronx Shit", "Suspended Animation", "Here & Now", "God is 4 Us", "Show & A.") which seemed to form the basis of a really, really DOPE album. however as time went on I guess they felt that these tracks had been out for so long already and they had recorded so much material together that they added another 10 songs to the pre-released singles and dropped "MugshotMusic: Preloaded" as a free album to build hype. the strategy seemed to work really well and I remember thinking like "if the mixtape is THIS FUCKING GOOD, imagine how sick the actual album is...".

next thing you know they dropped "MugshotMusic: Preloaded [The Remixes]" to iTunes, featuring a bunch of smashing remixes and some incredible new tracks ("Trapped", "Timeless", "Justice", "Do It 4"). so once the album actually dropped i have to say i was a bit dissapointed as "Preloaded" banged a lot harder overall to me. it's ill, and it definitely did grow on me, but it misses those definite stand-outs which would have been the original 5 singles. of course this might not matter much to anyone as all of the music is out there, and i'm glad we got to hear this amount of new Show & A tracks from this era but for someone who still fucks with vinyl and looks at catalouges by albums i just think "Mugshot Music" could have been done better.

if you put together the best songs from these three releases you got one hell of an album though, and either one of the three are good shit at any given moment. but i would have needed "South Bronx Shit" on wax LOL! what did y'all think of these releases and how do you view them now?

it's also really weird how the actual album is missing the title song, "Mugshot" LOL... also Show & A will release a new album this fall and what snippets and instrumentals i've heard it will be another sureshot.

EDIT - i went back to "Mugshot Music" and "PRELOADED" yesterday and today in full and just thinking about how to make the best single disc out of these 3 albums (including the remix disc) I would have to include the 5 singles mentioned above (all outstanding tracks) plus "The Bond" and "You're in Trouble" (big tunes both of them).

will have to think a bit about the rest of them, but "Trapped" and "Timeless" which were included on both remaining releases would definitely be left. "Every Time I Touch The Mic" and "Walking On Air" too. you can add "Justice", "Mugshot" and "Do it 4" from the remixes too, perhaps the "Suspended Animation" remix with Party Arty as well and use both on the album like they did with "Next Level" on 'Goodfellas'...

it's amazing that when you look at what to keep there's definitely more stand outs on the "Preloaded" releases. and as seen in the video above, where they discuss the singles as part of that, that was not the original intention with the "M.M." release.

^ don't get me wrong, i love Showbiz & AG and "Mugshot Music" is a good album, but if you would pick your top 10 songs from these three projects, would most of them be from "M.M."?

Most of them would be from Preloaded, Have not heard to remixes album. I always put both albums in the playlist at the same time when i'm listening to MM or preloaded. That party arty track is flames. Here and now? God damn!!!! God is4 us? that beat is fucking serious.

Anyone that hasn't checked these projects out is missing out badly.

When Here and Now first came out on Snowgoons channel. man.. I knew some serious shit was being brewed up by Show and A.G

I didn't know Showbiz and AG were still doing music. I haven't heard from them since GoodFellas album LOL. I'll check out their album. Mugshot Music was their last album? I see AG is still doing solo songs because I've seen a few of his videos on Youtube.

I prefer Preloaded. That's a banger right there and I can pretty much listen to it from start to finish without having to skip any tracks. The majority of it goes hard.

Post up your comp if possible when it's done. You make good albums.

Mugshot Music is a classic hands down. A really slept on classic. Its really mature hard core nyc boom bap hip hop. Preloaded and preloaded remixes are dope also. I was disappointed after it dropped too because here and now, mugshot and south bronx shit wasn't on the actual album. But as time passed giving it several spins it grew on me.

Ive kinda fallen behind here, i heard the first one, the mixtape. Wasnt overly impressed but i didnt give it enough spins.

AG kind of bores me now though, his rapping has gotten painfully slow, almost spoken word
