I was really suprised by how great Slum Village's latest album was, especially as the posthumous Dilla releases has started to decrease in quality over the years (with the exception of "Jay Stay Paid"). seeing how they used Dilla beats for almost the entire album, some remixed and added on to by Young RJ, its got a nice throwback feel to it, with that warm, soulful sound that made "Fantastic Vol. II" the classic that it was. this is very similiar to "Fantastic...", SV hasn't made another album as much in that vein since then so this is a very welcome addition to their catalouge for long time fans.
T3 does a good job holding it down on his own as he always been kind of underrated though one does miss another voice for him to bounce off of. the guest apperances are all very much on point and are all family, especially Phife and De La Soul's drops are straight up fantastic. it's amazing that unreleased and at the time forgotten beats created by Jay Dee some 15 to 20 years ago makes up one of the best albums of the year in 2015... his shit was just so on point, just listen to the drums and percussive splashes on whatever track you choose on here. damn!
this is definitely a good look for T3 and the Slum Village brand after the very dissapointing "Evolution" album... it does feel like an homage to the past and at times it might be a bit too nostalgic in its execution, but that doesn't really matter considering how good most of the music on this disc sounds.... it's FAN-TAS-TIC!
